Here is a response from Armacell, the company that produces Ensolite.
I received your inquiry regarding Ensolite insulation for use in recreational vehicles / trailers. I don't know which Ensolite type was originally used for this application years ago. At this point, I can recommend a few lightweight Armacell (Ensolite) technical foam products that would probably be suitable. See following table below.

1) Physical Properties:
Armacell Type Product # ASTM
D 1056-07
Designation Polymer Density
(Lb./ft3) 25% CD
(psi) Color
Armacell (Ensolite®) IUO 2A1 / 2C1 / 2B1 PVC/NBR 2.5 - 5 2 to 5 Black
Armacell (Ensolite®) IV1 2A1 / 2C1 PVC/NBR/CR 3 to 5.5 2 to 5 Black
Armacell (Ensolite®) MLC-Black 2A1 / 2C1 PVC/NBR 3.5 to 5.5 2 to 3.5 Black
Armacell (Ensolite®) IUT 2A1 / 2C1 / 2B1 PVC/NBR 3 to 5 2 to 4 Black

Kent,

It is really hard to say since the specs listed vary. Reading between the lines it looks like the skin 1 sided products are 1/2 the thickness of the 2 sided. My first reaction would be that the 3rd one down is the only suitable since it is listed as 1/4" thick for one sided.

The first Canadian supplier is about 8 km from me, I could go up with a piece and your post to see if they could figure it out. Alternatively, I could mail you a piece that you could send to the person you have been communicating with and get the answer from the manufacturer directly. That way the answer to the closest product available would be coming directly from the horses mouth.

Kent,

I've emailed Isabel offering to mail her a piece or bring it up to Jacobs & Thompson to see if we can find an answer to this question. I've only got a piece of elephant skin from my 1972 boler American to identify. I'll post what I find out. Hopefully somebody has a small piece of the popcorn texture that we can try to match as well.
