Window Channel Part/Weep Holes.

Morning All!

We made a creative fix to our front window (1980 Burro), conducted a leak test yesterday and found our creative fix was a fail.

We ultimately need to replace the window slide channel that goes on top and bottom of the sliding windows (check out the photo).

While I'm on the topic of windows has anyone attempted to drill additional weep holes in their windows?

While we haven't had rain here in Tucson, AZ in 96 days, I want to get this fixed before our monsoon storms start up this month.

Thanks!
- Ashley

A few Uhaul owners have drilled additional weep holes. Note that the hole also has to go through the channel liner. Another idea that seems to help is shoe laces run through the weep holes and hanging out some, to help wick out the water. Have not tried it myself, but others have reported it did help.

If they are the slider windows, like on Scamps, the rear window, in particular gathers a lot of dirt while traveling. Then when it rains, or you wash the rig, the mud clogs the weep holes (slots) and the water gets inside.
So, periodic cleaning with a wire is necessary. If possible, wait until it is real dry, and blow it out with dry air as you poke with the wire,
Also, as they age, the sealing rubber around the glass shrinks and leaves a gap where water can get in. Caulk those with silicone.

I take a drill bit that's a little smaller diameter than the weep hole, and using my fingers to hold the drill bit, spin it while working it up into the hole. This tends to pull the dirt down and out through the hole and away from the window rather than pushing the dirt back up into the channel where it might or might not actually clean out the opening. Or that's my working theory, anyway....
