19' Scamp 5th wheel, with a twist.

I have had this camper for close to ten years. And have made it in to what I needed. It was a 5th wheel that I turned in to a tongue type. And closed in the under side for more storage. I need to keep the back of my truck open for other thing.
I have also added a max air vent and painted and replaced all the pop rivets with 1/4 stainless screws and washers. Resealed all windows and got rid of all points that water could leak in.

Inside

I all so updated and rebuilt most of the inside. I replaced all the cabinet doors and counter tops and drawers. Add a bigger sink and new refrigerator with a 4' apartment model. It only draws a 1/2 amp so it and all the led lights and pumps and inverter will run for a few days on my battery's.
Were the refrigerator was I installed a microwave. I can run it on the inverter to but it really knocks the battery's down when not plugged in to shore power. Replaced the flooring with new floor tile.

Curious. What is the tongue weight loaded for travel?

I added a Max Air vent that really nice to use. The Tv plays DVD's and will turn and swing to witch it any were in the camper. And here you can see my remote switch for the inverter and gauges for all the batter's and power levels.

Did you do anything to the axle? With my moderate understanding of physics, I would be concerned about the effective weight on the axle and tires. Extending the tongue length increases the leverage component, plus the additional storage (weight) added could very easily exceed the axle/tire rating.

Not a bad mod, if these concerns were addressed. It looks nice.

A few people are asking what the tongue weight is. I really don't know. It would depend a lot on how much you put in the storage. Normally when I am pulling the trailer. I have in the storage and easy up, barbecue pit, camp chairs, toolbox, riding gear, spare motorcycle parts. And I pull it with half ton truck. Also carries two motorcycle in the back of the truck spare gas cans and some of the other things. And the truck has no problem.

Axle

When I got the camper the axle had been replaced with a 3500 lbs with leaf springs. This would not have been my first chose. But it more then works. I use a little heaver tires. It pulls better then others I have had.

Great modifications, particularly well done fiberglassing . Did you do the fiberglass work yourself ? Whoever did it deserves kudos for a job well done ! Lee and Norma
