I’ve FINALLY recommitted to my
Scamp project and am going to use this single thread to chronicle my progress and it’s transformation.
I dove headfirst into the project after purchasing it last summer and quickly got discouraged by its leaky
windows and rotten subfloor and door. I put a ton of time and effort into rehabbing the original
awning windows. I broke them down, painstakingly scraped the hardened glue/gunk of of them, and reinstalled the seals and glazing…all to no avail. There’s a reason
Scamp only used this style for a year and a half: they’re the epitome of poor engineering and will always leak.
I bit the bullet this week and spent a whole lot of money on parts to get this thing dried-in so that I can proceed with everything else that needs to be done to the interior. I purchased two custom 25” x 21” side
windows from Motion Windows to match the original window size and ordered plexiglass and beading and lock strip from
Scamp to convert the front and rear windows to stationary. I also ordered a whole new door assembly from Scamp since the old one was waterlogged and full of rot and it was impossible to find a non-stationary window to match the curve of the door.
Since I was already having to pay high shipping charges, I went ahead and also bought an entire new cushion set for the rear dinette.
So much for doing this thing on a budget! I’m all in!
