Any idea what the original intention by the manufacturer was for the countertop bump-up? I have recently acquired an 1987 B-17 that I am redoing here in NS, Canada.

Its weird, isnt it? I have included a pic. Im going all out apparently and demoing everything. It seems to me that it is simply venting for the 3 way refrigerator. Now, the fridge didnt fill that void, but i suspect there was some sort of clearance required by the engineers who designed the fridge. And bigfoot didnt want the whole cabinet that high, so they did that little bump. I have decided if i make it that far and this thing doesnt end up at the junkyard that ill be using a 2 way, so venting wont be required. Ill have a flat cabinet and no vent there. Ill try to seal that with fiberglass too. Which will be a hack job, Im sure.

I've been thinking the same thing, although the louvered vent on the outside does not cover that extra air space created by the bump-up. I've never been able to locate Dometic vent replacement for this 1222. Smart idea on their part to name the vent the dimensions, in other words, it's 12" X 22"! hahaha

BTW, in my doddery ole age I purchased two custom spare tire covers for my B-17. Half price is $100 US + postage if you're interested. It was made in The States. It has two grommets for a bicycle lock and tie straps for tightening on the standard 14" tire.

Very interested to see the final result. Happened onto your project (and this forum) as I am trying to install a roof-vent fan but of course my 1987 B17 isn't prewired. Your pics exposing the ceiling have helped me see how I must do it (can run in corner up to cabinet, but will have to run surface molding to get to vent opening).

Total thickness is about an inch so keep your cut at 0.5" and youll be fine. If it were me, I would use a circular saw for the straight portion and a dremel "multi max" for the hard to reach ones. Tap to find the nearly randomly placed, wood reinforcements. Its ok to cut throigh them. Just might surprise you if not expecting.

Youll do fine.

Thanks for the tip but I’ll use the 3/8 T x 1/2 W cord concealer I found on Amazon. Also, previous owner remove the oven, stove, and hood fan, so the hood fan wires are available in the cabinet so with the surface mount cable cover and a small hole into the cabinet I can run my wires as needed.

Will need to do something for the bathroom vent when we replace it but we’ll see what that looks like when I get there

Bathroom may be tougher. Last week i demoed the bathroom and it wont fit out the door. So it was assembled prior to the top being put on the camper. I think you might be able to fish wires from the kitchen side, if you bend back the paneling where the control panel is, or perhaps drill directly thru and utilize power from the light in the shower. There also are wires in the side bank of cabinets above the kitchen that you may be able to get to as well. Failing that, go thru counter top to get to the main wiring harness.
