2005 Scamp 16 Updates

I thought I'd create a thread for our new to us Scamp 16. It came to us in such good shape, that it really wants for nothing. BUT, it's fun to personalize and tweak for our preferences, so yesterday we pulled the carpet in the main space and replaced it with vinyl plank flooring. It's the kind that locks together instead of sticks together, and it creates a floating floor. We left room for extreme temperature swelling and shrinking, so hopefully it lasts for a long time.

Today I am going to be working on installing a drain splitter from the sink. The camper doesn't have a water tank, only city water and only an external gray water drain. Many places we camp require an inside gray water tank, so I'll be splitting the drain so we can utilize both drains. Eventually I'll also install a hand pump and do a direct plumb to a small freshwater tank that we will keep under the sink as well.

Nice Job!

Wow. That really dresses it up! We saved a couple boxes left over from when our home was rebuilt a couple years ago. We'll do the same thing someday. Thanks for the inspiration.

Last week I ordered new cushion covers for our Scamp and yesterday they arrived!! It took me about 4 hours to replace the old with the new (those things are harder than you think to put on the foam!). Today I took them over to storage and put them in the camper. Slowly, but oh so happily, our new Scamp is beginning to feel like ours! Tomorrow I'm going to move the mattress over for the bed, but in the meantime, here are some pictures of the new cushions, in place!

Looks great, Emily! I noticed you went with the same green covers as your first egg. I like the green, and it seems to be a lot less common than blue and brown. The floor looks super, too.

The map and pin board are nice touches. You've got quite a collection going. Time to venture farther afield!

Thank you, Jon and Bob. We almost went with the blue covers, but I just love the green. The kids say it feels like it's supposed to, since the same ones were in our little egg

Today we picked the new to us Scamp up from our trailer place, where they de-winterized it and gave it a good once over, which they call a Housekeeping Check Up - which makes me smile. We weren't expecting any issues, but it's nice to have our trusted trailer place take a look before our first camping trip (IN TWO WEEKS AND I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!)

Propane lines are all good, heater works perfectly, water lines good, battery and tires all good. One of the GFI outlets had tripped at some point which was causing some other electrical issues, so they fixed that. They also installed a battery line charger so it will charge while towing and a brake away line, in case the trailer, heaven forbid, comes uncoupled while in transit. Two things that will be nice to have! They also checked the frame and hitch, replaced a bad side marker light socket, repacked the bearings, replaced a wonky rear stabilizer and serviced the brakes.

With that all being done for the mechanics and structural and with the inside being finished out, we are excited and ready to camp!

FLYING out to Florida to tick off three National Parks there this summer, then driving out to New Mexico and Texas to snag three more in October. I wish we had more time to drive out to Florida - our initial plan called for three weeks on the road, stopping at several other National Parks, but alas, teen age children have Summer jobs

Our bigger egg sits up higher than our little egg, so we decided to order a step from Scamp and have our trailer places weld/install it for us. And while I was on the Scamp website, I decided to do a little looking around.... you know, just to see if I NEEDED anything else. Turns out I DID need something else...I needed two of these mugs! They arrived with the step yesterday, so before the kids awoke this morning, I enjoyed a cup of coffee and some fall camping planning Thought I'd share Click image for larger version
