It's a small mag lite. The holder is a piece of pvc siliconed to the cabinet near the pillow. So if you can reach up to scratch your head, you can reach the flashlite (on a Liberty).

Over the life of a light, that is cheap.

These LEDs last 100,000 hours Those silly little bulbs they put in the Mini Mags go POP at the worst possible time. That is why they have a spare in the cap.

The real advantage though is that your batteries will last up to 150 hours of use.:reye2

Once bitten by the LED bug one experiences uncontrollable itching.
Whelps form in amber, red and white frequently turning to blue and green if not treated.:bed

The LED person is recognized by enlarged pupils, sleeps by day,
comes out at night and illuminates in one dark corner after another. :flowers

The LED victim can finds temporary relief by removing the billfold and emptying the contents. Then often has to rob and steal to support the habit.:chased

If approached by an 'LEDer', hold up your fingers in the shape of a cross, and chant; in can des cent in can des cent.:jump

Actually, there are three suitable LED drop-in's for the Maglite AA flashlight ... no wait a minute ... there are four.

I will also tell you that I just got back from a shopping trip to Sam's Warehouse Club ... where I found a twin pack of Maglights (a 3D cell and a 2AA flashlight) for US $19.99. Since the AA itself is worth $9 ... that means you're paying $11 for a 3D cell Maglite which usually costs $18.

I had three twin packs in the cart until Pam found them and made me put them back. She said I already have too many flashlights. I tried to tell her I was buying them as gifts, but she wouldn't believe me.

WallyMart had the Dorcy 4 AA blue LED lights for about $8, with alkaline batts, so I bought a few as gifts and a few for myself. What I really like is that I can take a set of batts out of GPS or camera, which device is reporting low-batt, and recycle 'em thru the LED lites, putting the packed batts in the camera and GPS. The "low-batts" are still going strong in the LED lites.

The Dorcys normally sell for $12-15.

Speaking of gifts, flashlites make great Xmas/birthday gifts for children of all ages.

Walmart ran out of the Dorcy last year. They still have the Brinkman Rebel LED (with three interchangable lens to preserve night vision, etc) for about US$15.

I use "dead to other devices" AA batteries to power up the Brinkman Rebel LED ... works like a charm as Pete says.

I was surprised to see on one of the sites given that there is no UV output from LEDs so they don't attract insects. That can be a big plus and another reason to use them everywhere in an RV.

I have a Petzel Headlamp that is a couple of years old. I use it a least couple times a week around the house and have used it for long periods while camping and backpacking. I still haven't had to replace the tiny batteries that came with it.

I hadn't heard of that before about UV and LEDs. UV is not only insect attractant; moths circle lights not because they are attracted but because they use normally far-off lights like stars or moon as navigation beacon. When the light is close, the angles change faster and the moth mistakenly thinks he is being blown off course by wind or something, so he turns, banks and dives to keep the light or candle at the same angle and in the process, he circles it.

Also, I know mosquitos are attracted to CO2, given off by your breathing, and body heat, sensed as infrared. One drawback to having my head very near the window while sleeping is that in serious skeeter country, there is a lot of whining going on all nite from my breathing and heat going out the screen.

Hmm, I wonder why yellow lights don't attract as many bugs.

Has anyone used the LED replacement bulb available at:

I have a small reading light mounted over our bed and am considering changing the bulb to a LED to conserve the battery while boondocking.
The one I ordered is the 3 LED with the bayonet base which will fit my reading lamp.
Has anyone considered this?
