Adding a Shower and Toilet to 1983 Scamp 16'

I'm looking at purchasing a 1983 Scamp 16' (layout 4) that has a closet that could have optionally had a toilet. I believe there is just a porti-potty toilet in there now. We would ideally like to make this a shower and add one of the permanent flush toilets. How hard/expensive do you think it be to change the closet of to a shower and toilet combo? I'm very handy and think it would be a worthwhile project. I'm assuming one would have to add a water heater, grey and black water tanks, and piping. Has anyone done this or would it be too difficult due to space issues?

Thanks in advance.

You can purchase most of what you need to do it at the Scamp on line store and probable most RV stores. The Scamp online parts store sells the main parts of what they use - so you have a good idea as to what your looking for:

Scamp - Sealand 711 toilet
Scamp Shower Faucet
Scamp 16 & 19 Shower floor

They use a thin fibreglass panel or laminate on the walls. On mine it looks like it may have been an old counter laminate sheeting.

If you do not have a hot water tank you will need one to use with the shower. Scamp uses an Atwood 6 gallon.

You will also need to install all the plumping - most if not all the parts are on their online shop as well as common to most RV shops. Scamp also uses a pump under the shower drain to pump the water from the shower area to the grey tank - or at least they did on older trailers such as mine - do not know if they still do and sell one or not.

Edit: The black tank is part of the Sealand Toilet they sell. But you would need to add a grey water tank.

Shower and toilet

I am in the middle of installing a shower and toilet in my 16' Scamp as we speak. I am using a "RV" toilet and installed a shower using a heated shower head (Amazon). The shower head runs on 110. I installed a new fiberglass floor with a drain that is connected to the toilet drain. So far all systems seemto work great

Thanks for the shower and toilet install info

Thanks for the shower and toilet install info! It was very informative. We ended up not getting the 1983 Scamp 16' as it sold. BUT...we stumbled on a 1996 Scamp 16' this morning and it was only 30 minutes from our house! We got it for $6000 and its the layout we wanted with the shower and toilet already in it. We feel so lucky and can't wait to start the renovations.
