adding second set of tail lights to 2014 16'

Hi All,

I know 've seen this topic before, but dang if I can find it....

I'd like to add another set of tail lights to the back of my rig. I see tail light assemblies are available from Scamp. I'd probably use two "passeger side" lights, mounted just above the belly band.

I'm wondering if you all think the tail light circuits (running light, stop light and turn) are big enough to handle the extra bulbs?

I plan on fishing the wiring under the rat fur. It should be easy enough to glue back in place, right?

Should I put in some sort of plywood backing on the inside, or do you think the layer of fiberglass would be enough to hold the lights in place?

Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom.

Chuck

another option is a marker / turn / stop light bar above the rear window. Available in LED so little load.

I added a reading light to my small bunk and ran the wires under the insulation next to the fiberglass using stiff wire (a hanger). I did not pull the headliner off the wall, just poked the wire under the liner and Astro-foil.

Not sure what you would get over a single good set. Now upgrading to LED would help a lot. The original incondesent ones are not very bright in real use. I switched and got comments on how bright the were.

Have wanted the blink a couple times then on I see on some vehicles for brake lights. But not sure how to get that.

There’s a problem with the height on older Scamps. They’re so low that they can’t be seen easily by a large truck or other higher vehicle, especially in close traffic. I like the idea of upgrading the OEMs to brighter LEDs and adding a high-mount brake light over the rear window. Plus one if it has the initial strobe feature of some newer units.

Too much distracted driving out there!

The older Scamp brake lights were very low. If you were following in a big truck the high brake likes are MUCH more visible than the low ones.

Well I like the idea of the light above the rear window better than me side ones. Probably running the wiring would be "fun" either way. If the trucks having trouble seeing your rear light he's probably too close. But yeah too many of them do that.

Too close for normal traffic, yes, but when you're in a rolling backup, it's a different situation.

I added a two 12volt led strip lights and wired it to my existing tail light ..one on running light and one brake/ turn single. Wicked brighter low dough no drilling upgrade. Two years working.
