Anyone install a grab bar at entrance?

I am thinking about adding a grab bar to my Scamp for added assistance when entering/exiting door. I like the one Scamp sells but it is $$$ especially with their $14 shipping cost. Would double sided 3m VHB tape be sufficient to attach (40lb strength) or would I need to drill into fiberglass? Anyone else install a grab bar?

I wanted a long grab bar by the door of our Casita, found one at etrailer.com.It's about 16" or so long. Had to narrow down one end and relocate a hole to attach it with 10-24 machine screws and fender washers inside.

Here's a recent post from the Escape forum where someone installed a stainless steel one on an Escape 5.0.

There are other similar threads concerning grab handle installations on the forum too.

It must be bolted

Mine, from Menard's, is on a 2017 Scamp deluxe and there is room between the door and screen on the left side. I picked that side because the screen already narrows that side. I had to use a couple of types of bolts and that may change with your installation. I would not be without it. I also mounted two smaller ones in the shower because I always caught my self grabbing the sink for support.

Since I didn't want to drill any holes in the exterior of my Burro, I opted for a low-profile type grab bar. I mounted it just inside about 3 inches from the door on the closet wall.

Inside the closet I used a short piece of 1x2. I also used rounded stove bolts, fender washers, lock washers, and to keep my clothes from getting snagged, I used acorn nuts.

That was 3 years ago. If I had it to do over again... I'd do it the same way!

Oh, and it makes a perfect place to use a Canopy Tie (small bungee cord with a ball) to keep your door from a possible opening while in travel.

Must absolutely find a way to bolt down any grab bar. Here's two of mine. The vertical one was bought at Home Depot, kitchen dept. The horizontal one is simple PVC bolted to the window frame on the door. They really made entering and leaving safer for us.

Trillium Grab Bar

Hello,

When I noticed some people had trouble exiting the Trillium
I decided to install a grab bar. Now that it is in I find it very
useful and more safe when exiting than before.

The grab bar came from the local thrift store for a few dollars.
Since the fiberglass is not real strong in that area it is backed
up by a rectangular piece or 1/4" plywood in the closet. I used
machine screws, washers, and nuts to secure it. The whole
project cost less than $10 and less than an hour of work.

Thanks everyone, great information, especially about how and where to attach it safely (cause that’s the point, right?)
