Are these things standard in a Lil' Bigfoot?

These are firmly attached in the kitchen area:

The one on the right is a knife block, which we obviously won't use because we have no idea what kind of 30 years of crud might be in those slots. I was hoping it would just unscrew (see the two top screws are out), but even so it's on there tight, as though it's also been glued. If these are standard, has anyone else removed them?

And the one on the left... no idea. But it's useless, and I'd like to get rid of it. I don't see a good way to get that off either. Any ideas?
