If you are not a professional and do not have professional equipment I would suggest Brightside by Interlux.Good coverage ,good flow ability and can be easily resanded and recoated if your first attempt sucked.

Automotive bonding epoxy primer, automotive single or two stage finish should work just fine. The exterior gelcoat needs to be sanded and cleaned to remove all contaminants to aquire a mechanical bond.
I prefer two stage (paint and clear coats) as it is easier to touch up and repair if need be. But then I do all my own paint work........

Think of the trailer as a Corvette, although usually less costly!
Any products or processes used on a Corvette can be applied to an RV.

Primer: The Eastwood products are excellent, especially for the "non professional". They actually have any product you may need and a lot of "how-to" help videos.
This Epoxy Primer is da bomb! Very easy to spray, lay out and finish.

Paint: SHOPLINE is an easy to mix and use PPG product line found at most professional automotive supply shops. I use the Pro Plus acrylic urethane and the Ultra clear with great results. Value-Pro line is also a very acceptable alternative as well as the Eastwood products.

Don't forget after sanding and cleaning the first coat should be a Adhesion Promoter for the tub and any flexible surface like:

I am NOT a professional automotive painter but have done many projects thru the years to acquire a decent skill set and collection of equipment. I have painted cars, vans, motorcycles and boats as well as cabinetry and houses which was my trade for 35 years.

The reason for the products I use is COST! Near every project I do is for myself and I can live with a less expensive products for my stuff. I deal with PPG so get a somewhat discount on products and source them locally. If I wanted to wait on delivery and price being near equal I would have no issue using Eastwood products, and have on many projects.
Also, if you have a Sherwin Williams automotive store near you they too carry several easy to use paint lines as most are all a 1:1 ratio.

Single stage is paint and clear combined in one product while two stage is paint and clear in two separate products. I use two stage as you can apply one to 10 coats of color until you're satisfied, then as many coats of clear as you like. Advantage to two stage is you can go in and repair/sand any area you need, re-prime then reapply color to cover before clear.
With single stage you get one chance, need to repair or re-sand an area you're doing a complete repaint.


The last project completed last fall was a 2000 Jeep Cherokee which was a rust repair, quarter panel replacement and complete paint job.

Nice job on that jeep. What do you use for a spray booth when doing a car or an even larger RV?

Thanks.I used my 2 car garage!
Had plenty of 500w led lights, cleaned and wetted the floor before spraying. I taped a roll of window screen across the bottom of the double door and left it raised about 2 foot with a couple fans blowing outwards. Worked really well. Only limitation is what can fit into the garage, mine being a double wide door and 9 foot tall. Probably couldn't fit an RV in there but just about anything else is fair game. If I was to do an larger RV I would build a tarp shelter to size.

With a semi quality automotive paint gun there is very little overspray, with the majority settling down to the floor. In fact there wasn't even a color difference on the screen where the fans were pulling out air.
Not the greatest paint booth but works well. The spray equipment is key.

I understand that cost of product was not in the OPs question but.
As a Canadian I understand we can expect the cost of matetial to get a boler sized trailer from the driveway to a quality paint product paint job to be like 2 G or more.
Would anyone from the trade be interested in addressing the cost?
A rolled on Interlux job probably $300 or so.

Thanks! I was a mechanic all of my working career. I worked in foreign car dealerships and got burned out buy flatrate and moved to a rental yard and finally an agricultural shop before I retired. In all that time I avoided paint and bodywork like the plague.

Now I may want to restore a few machine tools and maybe I will spray instead of going with a brush.

It's not as difficult as people think it is. With Utube there is a wealth of information available. Have fun with it!

Roll and Tip does produce a great finish. However, it does require less tool investment but the trade of the method is very labor intensive and time consuming. Probably dollar for dollar materials sre probably a wash.
If you have the time it's not a bad way to go.
