Thank you to all for the positive feedback. It's much appreciated.
My focus has changed to the outside of the trailer. Although you can't see it in the external photos, the clear coat on top of the trailer all along the "door side" has bubbled and flaked off. This is is allowing rain to find it's way under the clear coat, further aggravating to problem. The rain water is dirty and looks bad and sits in pockets under the clear coat. As I lightly sand the loosened clear coat, the problem gets bigger. In one or two areas I have accidentally sanded through the thin layer of gelcoat exposing the composite material underneath. Structurally, there doesn't appear to be any damage at all to the body. Everything is completely solid.
I have tried to repair the small areas with gelcoat, but I've found that blending the affected area in with the surrounding clear-coated area is not giving me satisfactory results. I've decided to have the trailer painted. I am looking for some advice from
fiberglass trailer owners who have had their trailers stripped and repainted. I am not interested in doing this work myself.
I am located in Southern Ontario and I'm looking for a reputable place with experience
painting fiberglass trailers. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm willing to travel several hundred kilometers to have the work done properly. If the answer is, take it to an auto body shop, can anyone recommend what to look for? If the answer is take it to a boat shop, again, can anyone recommend one specifically?
Thank you.
