bunk set up

Our bunk cushions are new and were never prepped by the last owner. The screws were never attached to the hinge. That part seems easy as I got 8- 1" long wood screws to go into the plywood and hinge holes, but I was wondering what do I need to attached to the plywood on the opposite side to secure against or inside the 2 bunk pole loops? What do you use to insure the loop on the poles hold the bunk together via the plywood?

hi ruth, I put 2 big screws into the bottom of the bunk plywood & left them sticking out about 1/2". those sit nicely into the pole loops. keep in mind, I don't have anybody sleeping there, I just put food & clean clothes up there(& they don't move around!). what are your ideas?

thanks Sharon. Do you happen to know what Scamp used originally? Did they use a screw that stuck out 1/2" as you did? I was thinking of a hook or something like a screw but was concerned if the screw would rub up against the fiberglass when set up and folded back as a couch/seat?

I couldn't find anything online in the parts department. and like you said, afraid of a long hook poking out or snagging. maybe a small eye hook loop that fits into the larger pole one, then zip tie to each other? are you afraid of the kids moving around too much?

Yup. Two screws from the factory. They don't hit anything when folded down because the upper bunk rests against the fiberglass base several inches out from the front wall. There's enough space to store the banana cushion behind the backrest, sitting vertically in its long edge.

It seems quite secure. We use the upper bunk regularly without issues. If you did want something more secure, I saw where one poster recessed a T-nut in the plywood base and ran a wing bolt through the loop into the T-nut. But then you'd have to keep track of the bolts.

On the Boler the poles extend above the bunk and welded onto the poles, about 8 inches down, was a loop. This caught a steel screw that was attached to plywood.
When my Grandkids were small and I was worried of them falling off the top. I cut a peice of 1/4 plywood to go along the front edge of the bed, between the matress and the tops of the poles.

Two screws that go into the loop. We made a pvc bunk rail to keep our girlie from falling out of the bed, and it acts like a locking mechanism once installed. It goes over the bit of bunk support that sticks up above the mattress and keeps the whole thing from moving around.
