Camp Kitchen

This is our new camp kitchen I made this past month.
There are 5 part to the kitchen, 2 frames and 3 shelves and it all snaps together in a minute.
So far it has worked out great

Thanks for all the kind remarks. I will try to get the plans out of my head and post them on the forum. This kitchen is very easy to make. All it is are three 2' X 3' 1/2" plywood and one 2' X 4' 1/2' plywood although if I was making it again I would use 1/4" plywood. After making the kitchen I made this table in one night. It is made basically like the kitchen

What type of plywood is on the table? love the woodgrain (cedar?). Did you just bolt pipe caps to the bottom of the plywood to hold the legs? How did you attach please? Very smart storage idea to strap the legs underneath!!

That is correct. I used 1 1/2" end caps with bolted to the table. The cap and table top are sandwiched between a 3" and 1 1/2" washers, this add extra strength to the end cap.

I should have. We just got back from it's inaugural trip, which was basically around Lake Erie, with a side trip up to the Thumb of Michigan.

I was going to give you a heads up and stop your way the first night, but we ran out of time and ended up departing late the next day. Turns out our first stop in PA was not that far from the campgrounds of last years Lake Erie meet.

OK, I hope one of you smart building guys is reading this! I've about got this figured out (I think).

Just a couple questions: What do you think the small "rods" are that go between the legs???? Wooden dowels, metal????? And am I correct in assuming that they are what support the shelves?? I've studied the pictures endlessly and that's what it looks like to me.

And what are the end caps on the top---pvc, metal, or what. I walked around Lowe's and couldn't figure it out.

One more ?---where do you get the drain hose and clamp? Didn't see that in Lowe's either. Maybe I missed it---I'll ask tomorrow when I go buy the stuff.

Thanks---I really want to make this. I found a new Lewis and Clark Fold and Go Camping Kitchen on CraigsList for $40 (about 45 min. drive from me), but I really like Rick's idea better.

OK I will try to explain the kitchen parts

3 - 2'X4'x 1/4" plywood, I think the table and kitchen top are spruce. I bought what ever was at Home Depot. Look at the grain and if you like it buy it

6 - 1 1/2' PVC end caps that are not rounded but flat so they can fit against the top. got them at Value Home Centers

6 - Bolts, nuts and lock washers to hold the end caps to the shelves

6 - 1 1/2" washers for the inside of end caps and 6 - 2 1/2" washers for the top of the shelves to give support for end caps

1"x2"x8' - boards to trim the shelves and give support, the amount depends on the size you make your tops. My top shelve is aprox 3' x 2'.
doing over I would make it 4' x 2'. My middle shelve is 4' x 2'.
my lower shelve is aprox 3' x2'.

3 - 3' x 1/4' aluminum rods that supports the lower shelve and the one end of the middle shelve

6 - 1 1/2" PVC 90 deg elbows

About 7 - 1 1/2' PVC pipe

Dish pan and dish strainer

1 Qt of water based polyurethane and and a brush

Finishing nails

Putty for nail holes

Drill, hole bit and other bit the size of your bolts you bought

Over the weekend I will try to give you step by step instruction and pictures for building your kitchen.

I don't think I will get all the instruction done tonight but I will try
1. You must decide how large to make the top shelve. If I was doing it again I would make it 2' X 4'
2. Attach the pine 1" X 2" boards to the bottom of the shelve. Doing it again I would put them flush to the edge of the board. I used my brad nailer but you can use finishing nails and a hammer
3. after attaching all side boards its time to attach the end caps. to attach drill a hole through the bottom of each (4) cap. hold the caps in each corner
of the bottom of the board and use the hole in the cap to be your guide and drill through the shelve. Note its best to place the corner of the shelve on a piece of wood. This helps the wood not to splinter when the drill goes through the shelve.
4. Now bolt the end cap to the board using the large washer on top of the board, the smaller washer on the inside of the end cap, place the bolt through the top and end cap, place lock washer on bolt, then the nut and tighten. do this to the 4 corners.

Then you get through it should look like this with out the cut outs
