CANVAS REPLACEMENT

I'm looking to replace the canvas with something better that won't mold. Also thinking of adding fixed screens and roll down zippered clear windows on the sides and front. Any ideas for materials?

Sunbrella material. Used a lot on boat tops and enclosures.

Fabric Showroom: Sunbrella fabrics

I have had lots of boat canvas work done. The same materials, Sunbrella, clear plastic, zip in screens etc. are all used on boats. You should have some close to your home. Shop around and look at some of the work in the shop you choose. Quality and price vary and I've had some of the best work done by shops that had the lower ptice.

I've bought marine vinyl for upholstery from Nardone ( under the Ironworkers' Bridge ).

Be aware that Sunbrella comes in at least two weights. The heavier stuff is pretty stiff. The lighter is less expensive and I think might work better for pop top since it is nice and flexible. I decided to make my plastic screen covers removable and attach with Velcro since I wasn't sure how the plastic would take to being wadded up. This was one of the points Bob Miller impressed upon me when I picked his brain on the subject

Had my Trails West Campster replacement canvas made at a canvas & awning shop (in Seguin, TX) Turned out great, especially when you consider all that was in place was ratty screening and I only had pics from the forum to show them to go by. I do agree with the comment that going with lighter rather than the heavy-duty fabric might be the way to go. Mine is probably heavier & stiffer than I need. I think if I was doing it again, I'd choose a really pretty Sunbrella fabric and have an awning made for The Campster in the same fabric.
