Clam 1660

Was a nice day yesterday so i tried to put up the new clam 660 screen room i got for my upcoming trip south in a couple weeks. It is every thing they said it was, easy peasy, all parts together, easiest shade thingy i ever put up. Folds up and back into bag fast, everything together. It is kinda of long, but for me no problem. I will transport it in the trailer, on floor, hugging the side dinette area, so we can sit in the camper for break during travel and will not be in the way. It will also fit in the Rav diagonally, or on the roof racks. Me thinks the trailer would be the easiest. Carl

Too funny, I just order a Clam 1660 less than an hour ago. Contemplating the 3-pack of Wind Screens too, but will probably wait until we try it.

What a pain though, to order one into Canada. I even tried Bass Pro which we have in town, as they list it on their website, but will only bring it in to US destinations. Other retailers that had it would not ship it here either, as it seems to ship from Clam, despite who sells it. Anyway, I found it on eBay, for just about as good of cost as anywhere else, though shipping to Canada, with import charges, sure is pricey.

I saw one for the first time last year and it looked pretty cool. I was going to order one this week until someone mentioned that a tan version will be out in April. I think I will try and wait for the tan one.

Did I start something when I posted yesterday about my order of a Clam, and the low price I saw on Amazon?

I do hope that the length doesn't end up being an annoyance. But there are a couple of places I can try without resorting to cluttering up my trailer floor, so it should be good.

Pat, I'm pretty sure I saw the tan one advertised on Amazon too... it was more than the green by about $35, so I went green.

Yep, can`t wait to get going. Nothing planed, just heading south. Have the Good Sam GPS, punch in campgrounds what ever area we are in and go to it. If it is nice we will stay awhile if not, one night and be on our way. Carl

Mike I saw your post after I had purchased mine from EBay. Could've saved $30. Oh well still excited to have mine delivered.

We got one and used it for our trip to Arches NP last week. Loved it! So easy to put up and down and it actually fit back in the carry bag easily. So impressed!

You're not the first person who's commented that the Clam truly fits back in the bag after use. That's a rarity nowadays!

Stopped into Clam a couple of weeks ago to look at the Escape (no longer the 1660) screen room. The said they were about to introduce a larger room soon. It is 10" larger. I see it is announced as the Quick-Set Pavilion. Just got off the phone with Clam and the Pavilion has roll-down wind panels sewn-in, so it will function better as a tent. We put in our order and it will be available sometime in May.

They had complaints that the old green 1660 was too warm for the summer (remember they make fish houses, and heat is nice in Minnesota winters on a frozen, barren lake) and now they offer a tan version that is much cooler as the Quick-Set Escape. I'm guessing the green version is being discontinued and that would explain the $30 discount.

Enjoy,

Perry

That is good improvement with sides already on, but i do not think i would have sprung over $500 for it with tax. I would have just scanned over it and go , nice,, but to much for me. So i feel lucky to get what I have (660 clam) while they are still available. Carl

I love the attached sides and having a cover for the door, but I wish they had not made it bigger. I liked the previous size. Price is $389 on Amazon. I placed an order! The newer color with 2 added wall options would have run about $370

My DW and I returned home this morning and my 1660 I ordered was waiting for me. So wanted to see if it could be put up in 45 seconds like they say. Never put one up before and having seen the video I was ready to try once I got it out of the box. READY..... Go! Easily 30 seconds and it was up not counting the side door poles. Wow! I Love it. Ok now they say it goes back in the bag just as easy right? Here we go! Bam! Right back in the bag just as easy. I will never buy another brand again. If this one wears out I will order another. Ted

Yep your right LOL. I've been using the shelters with the sliding poles for I don't know how many years. Now I'm mad I haven't bought a Clam before now.
