Do I have a converter in my Scamp?

I bought a 13' 1990 Scamp recently and was doing a test run to power it off the battery. When it didn't work, I followed the leads and found they were cut off underneath the front seat.

Underneath the sink there is a circuit breaker, which the main AC cord goes into and gets distributed to a few other AC outlets. I don't see any other electrical boxes near by.

So, do you think a previous owner took out the converter? Or is it located somewhere else?

Chad, You may not have one, I had an older Scamp with out a converter. Easy fix. Take a maintenance type battery charger, plug it into a 110 receptacle , and take the leads and run them to the battery. Now when you are hooked up to shore power, you will be charging your battery and not overcharging like some older converters. What I did is run a new 110 receptacle under the front bench I think, then ran the leads to the battery.

Ok the battery charger hook up makes sense. My next question would be if there is some sort of distribution center for the 12 volt. The 12v leads we're cut very near the battery. So where are all the wires for all the 12 volt lights?

Procreative Dynamics make a nice 12 circuit DC Distribution/Fuse panel that mounts through the wall with fuse LEDs, about $50

Or you can check at your local Boat Supply shop for a 12VDC distribution panel, might be a little more expensive, but instant gratification is yours.

Do I have a converter in my Scamp?

My '98 16' Scamp did not come with a converter. All the 12v wiring ran up and hooked to the battery. That was it-nice and clean. I have since added a small converter(shouldn't have-it was old and not worth the trouble). I bought a battery tender jr., and I plug the battery into it whenever I camp with power(my added converter does not have a charger function).

If the battery was still hooked up to all the 12V accessories, I probably could have lived with that for a while, but since I will have to rewire all the DC wiring anyway, I ordered a Progressive Dynamics AC/DC distribution center thingee.

I've installed 7 of them without problems, but be sure you connect the 120VAC lead to the converter section with it's own circuit breaker.
