Fan removal

Hi folks

Started the replacement of our old fan. I expected to drill out the rivets from the interior, but there are only four accessible. The remainder exterior rivets seem "blind" - so only accessible from the roof.

How do I drill these out if I can't retrieve them? Won't they be jammed in the holes I need to fit the new fan?

Merci

I just drilled mine out from the roof using a ladder.

Would you mind telling me what size you fan is? The hole left behind from my old vent is 9"x9" but the fantastic vent I bought is 14"x14" - this was the only size I could find from fantastic fan. I'm just wondering if there are other sizes out there before I start cutting the roof!!

Just drill them out from the roof. Your going to have to set it up to get at the roof anyways if you are planning on installing a new vent.

Many older trailer have a 9" vent. All of my Trillium 1300's do. I have never seen a 9" vent with a fan, other then ones made by members of this site. 14" fan vents are all you will find.

The problem with just cutting a new hole is that you loose the lip around the vent. This causes the fan to hang too low. A good idea is to add a frame on the outside of the trailer that will hold the fan higher, so you don't bump your head.

Also, Fantastic makes fans that don't protrude as far into the trailer:

Tilly, you could just try modifying what you already have with either 6" pancake fan or fans or another aftermarket like endless breeze or O2 Cool fan attached to what you already have.

Just something that struck me as funny (warped I guess) was the statement
ddicks I just drilled mine out from the roof using a ladder.

I would have used a drill bit.

Oh dear. Thx everyone for the replies. Managed to get things done - drilled out no prob. But got spooked I had mistaken the size of the old vent! So after I checked the forum this morning i put my boots on right away to go check the hole in the boler roof, measuring tape in hand....

All good. Hole dug, butyl tape at the ready...hope to put it in place soon.

Not sure if the profile will be too low, so will keep some of your ideas in mind. Thx!
