Fantastic Fan on Trillium install
I'm in the middle of installing a Fantastic Fan in our Trillium 1300 with a riser. I thought it would be cool to use insulation foam to shape my own. Definitely not the easiest way but I'm excited for the end result. So I formed the foam down to what I need and drilled holes in it for the 1/4" lag bolts that'll I'll run up through the camper roof then bolted down on the fan flange. I then coated the foam with waterproof wood glue and will fiberglass it, overlapping onto the roof itself. A couple questions, should I use butyl tape between the foam and roof and how much do I need to sand the roof down to apply fiberglass to it?

I can't answer your question but I sure do like the way you went about this. Looks like you'll have a beautiful result when all finished. Nice job!

Why you did not use the supplied adapter with the installation kit.
Your installation looks nice but, from what I see it will be much higher than normal.
Can you install a Maxxair over this installation?

Hey Gilles,
Yea, I originally made the riser too tall so I shaved it down which you can see from the side profile on one of the last photos. I basically made it so i can get it as low as possible without having the control knob in the way. That explains why I'm keeping the fan level. I didn't have a riser in the fan kit I bought. What does it look like? Either way, I think this will turn out alright. Our big thing is clearance since we keep this in the garage. Installing the fan as I plan, it'll give me another 4" of clearance to work with for when we replace our axle. Not that I'd raise it that much, just nice to know the room is there.

This part should be part of the installation kit, installs inside and the fantastic fan connects with this one.
With my Trillium it was too high because the ceiling of the trailer is thin, I cut the surplus with a good saw finishing, it is plastic, we must work patiently:

Yep, I do have that trim piece. I'll cut it down and install it once I'm done with all of the fiberglass work and install the fan.

I did, but the search function never seems to work for me. I usually search "fiberglassrv" then whatever topic on Google, but I couldn't find any threads that answered my question.

as far as the butyl tape it wont hurt and as far as the sanding I would sand the gel coat off and use the West System Epoxy/Resin fiberglass.
I built canoes and have used this product for years and have had nothing but good results.

Fantastic Fan on Trillium install
Hey Andy, I like your idea. I will be curious to see how it turns out. When I did the install on my MaxxFan, I made a fiberglass riser out of square tubing. I did a light sanding on the roof around the opening and then used marine epoxy and also used 3 rivets per side. When I mounted the base to the riser I used butyl tape and rivets. I finished it off with some Dicor sealant. Absolutely no leaks and super solid.

That looks good, Clayton! And a lot less work... We briefly looked at those fans but the clearance isn't there for the garage.
I'm currently in the middle of sanding the gel coat so the fiberglass has something to bond to. My goal is to fade the riser into the camper so it looks like a factory job but this is my first time working with fiberglass so we'll see. I'll post some photo updates this weekend. I haven't even begun to research how I'd color match this thing.

First pass with bondo and the sanding begins... My time to work on this has been limited with other things going on as well but i just need it done by the end of March.

So other than cutting off excess butyl tape, caulking, wiring it up and minor interior details, I'm just about done. I couldn't find even a close color match from Fibreglast so I just went with white paint. I also got a little tired of sanding so it's not exactly a showroom finish but oh well, nobody is going to see details without climbing up there! Most importantly, we have the interior clearance and with all the lag bolts and fiberglass, I don't think it's going anywhere. [emoji1]

Sweet install! Does the air deflector have any effect smoothing out the airflow?
