Cool flooring

Anyone installed plank vinyl flooring on carpet in a 17 SD Casita? Not sure how to find a straight line to begin the flooring?

You really cannot install vinyl planks over carpet, the adhesive strips or click locks will fail. It can only be installed over a rigid surface. Remove the carpet, smooth the floor, then install the vinyl planks.
You can either remove the benches and install under them, or just install up to the benches and apply quarter round to dress out the edges.

Lyle gave you correct info. I installed flooring a couple years WAY back. Most times when you had a lined patterned material, you had to find the lesser of the evils of where your eye first went to notice the straight line with a wall or cabinet. Your SD is newer than my '06 but mine, with carpet, has a molding edge strip screwed, with Philips heads, to the bottom of all the FG cabinets and carpet only at the bathroom wall. I'd pull the strips, cut and prep the floor and loose lay the flooring to get a visual to the lines and cabinets. If you're running it length wise down the isle, you probably will need to lay it out and trim both sides so the filler edges are equal. The edging strips will give you roughly a 1/4" to play with for cover. Laying it the other way, you only have to deal with the closet/shower/refer wall for a straight line. That's why you see so many houses with the flooring at a diagonal now.....it hides the blems of crooked walls .

The way to lay the floor and start with a straight edge is this...
Messure width... (I assume your running planks front to back.
Devide that by half to find center line and draw this center line down the floor.
Messure the width of your boards and see how many will fit in this devided messure.
If you find out that saw 4 full planks will fit and a strip, less then half the width of a full plank, remains.....tricky part...you got to move your drawn center mark over... half the width of a plank.
This way the side plank wont be so narrow.
You will either have a seam or center of full plank down the center of your trailer.

Thumbs up flooring

thanks everyone. I seem to get 2 different answers. Casita Forum folks say yes to laying over carpet. Carpet is smooth and not shag?? Very help info for the finding straight line.
