Installed electric brakes on my U-Haul VT

I just put new hubs and electric brakes on our VT, I made the hubs to fit the axel, about like Tom did, drilled the backer plates like Kevin did and put 14" tires on it.

They are better than the old ones, we didn't have any.

Thank you Tom, it took a little time, but worth every bit of it. It is almost like yours but a little different.

It is worth noting that you found 14" wheels with enough positive offset to be used on a UHaul. This is a significant discovery and one that I'm sure will help other UHaul owners in the future.

They have a bolt pattern of 4.5", not the 4.75", most car wheels will not carry the 1600lbs like the trailer rims will, the ones I found will carry 1400lbs my off set is 5.25 .

Roger, thanks for clarifying that. So, you must have gone with the Lumina hubs to get the 4.5" bolt circle. According to this sketch that I picked up here, the original backset was 4.5". Have you had a chance to measure your clearance to the wheel lip yet? I ended up with about 1".

The lip to the tire is one inch with my 205x 14's,
My stub axel is 5.75" from my mounting plate, my mounting plate is 3/8" thick

My back space is 5", just checked today, pulled it out to the farm, ajusted the brakes.
I just found out today that Dexter axel is in Fremont Ind.
