Introducing the "bucket sucker"
I got tired of lifting water containers and trying to pour the water into my fresh water tank. It's only a 10 gallon tank. I needed a way to do this without the 42 pound lift.
I got a submersible pump from amazon ($20 CAD), 4 feet of 1.5 inch ABS, an elbow fitting and 10 feet of tubing.
This is the result. It pumps a 5 gallon jug empty in 1 minute and 30 seconds. Not bad for a little 12 volt pump. Very quiet as well. It easily fits into the opening of those blue 4 gallon water containers for water storage.
Just throw the end into the water container, put the outlet hose into the fresh water inlet, plug into 12 volt source and click the switch.
Here's the pump. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the motor is rated for 12-24 volt, so I'm thinking of mounting a 4 x 18650 lithium battery pack on the pipe to make it more portable. Then I can use it to extract water from a remote source and pump it into buckets... then pump from the buckets to the fresh water thank.
Sometimes we pull water from the river (in the mountains). We don't use the tank water for drinking just doing dishes, flushing the toilet, and boiling for cooking. It would be nice to have the 4 foot reach to extract the water away from the shallow shoreline.

I have a question??
Has this pump been approved/certified for use with potable water for human consumption?
If "according to the advertisement connected to amazon" it is approved for use with diesel fuel I get ""realllllllly curious"".
But, I'm a just asking a question??

It says diesel, water, oil.
I've looked at the build and components. The shell is aluminum alloy, and the impeller and pressure chamber are made of hard PVC plastic.
For the short time the water is in contact with the plastic in the pump, I would be more worried about the water sitting in the plastic fittings and pipes in my RV or the plastic water jugs I store the water in (even if they say it's BPA free) The water can sit marinating in those components for days or weeks. The water is in contact with the pump for less than a second.
That being said I did pump 5 gallons of hot soapy water through the thing to get rid of any manufacturing residue inside the pump.
I think the diesel rating has more to do with letting the customer know that the plastic inside is chemical resistant.
Very good question though. It's an issue that needs to be considered.

Alrhough somewhat more expensive, I am using a
Zodi pump that is for powering a personal shower. I tip the 5 gallon jug into a clean 5 qt. ice cream bucket with the pump setting in the bucket. The 12 volt power comes from a jump starter pac with 12 volt outlet. The starter pack is 750 CCA and has a USB port and plenty of power to jump start 6 cylinder engines. Easier than standing alongside the camper holding a 5 gal jug trying to hit a funnel. Which I did a
Few times but did not like the looks I got from other campers when they saw my pants were wet in the front.

I can relate to the wet pants issue. It's part of the reason I built a transfer pump.

Someone mentioned using a drill motor battery to power it. No need for that, there are small liquid transfer pumps that are powered by chucking a fitting on them into your drill motor Hardware store item!

Even easier, just siphon it. That's what I do in a pinch from my reserve blue 5gal jug. I just set the jug on stacked bins or whatever you have on hand so that it's higher than the water tank. I use a food grade hose. No electricity, no muss no fuss.

But i don't need to siphon it. I built a solar powered Bucket Sucker!
for 40 bucks!
Honestly I thought about siphoning but my tank intake is 4 feet off the ground.

Yeah, that name is pretty sweet Glen.
It sounds like something you'd find from Ronco in the As Seen on TV store!
When's the IPO?

Water
I also rigged a pump with hose to transfer water. But I purchased a 6 gallon water jug on wheels from WalMart. Works great. Don't have to lift the jug, just trolley it like a suitcase on wheels.

Are you saying you wash then rinse your dishes with that water and then put into the cups some boiled water and drink it? Yikes then you had better stick to disposable dishes
