LED bulbs

Looking to put LED's in my Casita, read that you get what you pay for, so I went to Campers world picked an LED paid way more than I was expecting, but hey I was paying for quality, no 20 pcs. for 15.00. Got home happily inst alled my LED's then the lights went out, took the cover off the light pieces falling everywhere. Maybe just cheap ones marked up at CW? Any hints on quality LED's? (I've never had a good experience at CW waited a half an hour for them to find someone to check me out, last time they growled at me when I asked awning questions.) On the way to Quartzite with regular lights I guess. I'll not be back except to take back bulbs.

I've picked them up for years at common auto parts stores, depending on the base of the bulbs. Walmart has some too.

I populated my Casita's inside (and porch) lights with LEDs from www.superbrightleds.com ... 1156 base, I got the fairly bright non-canbus ones in warm white (I hate cool white, its too blue), and a couple in amber (outside light, one of the ones over the dinette), the amber for when its dark out and I don't want bright lighting when I step in the trailer.

Like John, I've been happy with Superbrite . I bought my first ones from them in 2004. Since then they have vastly improved and prices have dropped but with the shipping charge they are still pricey. I use cool while for tasks like over the sink and warm white for reading. Mine are about 200-250 lumens. I use one of my original ones as a night light.

Hi All,

Just ordered four LEDs for Casita (some came in small multi-packs). No luck at Campging World, Walmart, or Lowes. I needed three 12v bulbs and one 120V bulb for a total of three different styles. Went on Amazon and research based on correct size, price, kelvins, lumens, and product rating. Wow. Did the best I could! We shall see. With mixed feelings, once again thank you Amazon!

I only ordered from them twice, but one was a $100 order
I have caught some flak for paying their prices but I always respond that the quality is always very good, the tech support great and the info on the site very helpful... so a few dollars more is not so bad.

And remember, they have 10% sales very often. Always get the 10% off. In fact the second order I made with them, for a single bulb, I paid full price and the next day got email with a 10% discount offer. So I asked for it to be applied to the order and they did so.

They all come from China and arejust marked up by CW.

I have used the bulbs I bought on eBay for 4 years and have never burned out a bulb. I choose various outputs depending and where I use them. You have to wait a few weeks for them to get here but I have found mine to be low cost and very reliable.

FWIW -
You might look for bulbs rated for 12v to 28volts.

Several years ago, I bought from CW and the bulbs seemed fine for awhile and then little sections (SMDs) started blinking on and off.

When plugged into 110v shore power, the converter is probably putting out 14.x volts in
order to charge your 12v battery. If the LEDs are only specified at 12v, they might die
prematurely with the higher 14.x charging voltage.

Just my experience. YMMV.

I prefer the “daylight”/“natural white” bulbs (around 4500 to 5500 Kelvin color temp.).
Some in that color temperature range are labeled “cool white”. The “soft white” or “warm white” are usually around 2700 Kelvin and appear yellowish to me. The bluish bulbs are usually around 7000 Kelvin.

Here is a follow up from my earlier post. Very impressed with the “apparent” quality, cost, and appearance of these LEDs for the main lights in the Casita.

When looking for new bulbs for our 2000 Bigfoot.
I had bad luck with many of the amazon brands. So I turned to M4products they had a great selection of quality, light output and light color temperature.
I was able to mix and match to give us the task and mood lighting and retro fit our reading lights with a bulb that worked out very well. I happened to be in the area where M4products is based so I stopped in. The owners a good guy and it's a small shop but he knew his stuff. I've worked with super bright and I'd work with them again

I replaced all the interior lights in our castita with superbrightled's... most were warm white, with one amber (also an amber in the 'porch' light outside), and one red to use at star parties where bright light is evil.

If you mean for the taillights then yes I have tried them on our '79 Boler and I didn't think they were bright enough in the day time. I also don't think the original incandescent were bright enough in the day time. I ended up getting a set of these:

I placed mine in the belly belt, and red reflector in the bumper case support for my spare.
