Light Fixture Ideas

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has tried changing out light fixtures. In particular, I was thinking of putting a two-bulb fixture in the bathroom similar to attached. So, my questions are:
1. Is it pretty simple to change out light fixtures?
2. Do you think something like this would work in a Scamp bathroom (toilet/side/16ft)?
3. Do you have any tips on how to update fixtures?

Thanks for your ideas in advance!

I have changed out light fixtures but not 12v to 110v. I did a little google on the photo and see its 110. You would need to run new wire from one of your 110 receptacles to the bathroom light. I am not sure why you would want to do that though. Wouldnt work if you were not plugged in - not to mention the safety issue of having 110 power in what is a wet bathroom. More than the lights might light up during a shower ;-)

You could use this fixture with 12 VDC. Bulbs that look like the regular 110VAC variety are available in 12VDC.

Most folks seem to be going to LED l2v lights. I just ordered 2 to replace the 12v lights in my Scamp. You can find lights that put out nice light if that's your goal going with the 2 bulbs. Just a thought.

Am I to understand that a 110 light fixture can be converted to a 12 volt fixture simply by putting in a 12 volt bulb?

Well, there may be some CSA issues, or UL in the states, but a mogul base light fixture is just a way to electrically connect the bulb to the power. As long as the wires in the fixture are large enough to carry the required current then yes, just putting in 12 VDC bulbs will work. On a compact florescent bulb, the current requirements would be small. If it were a 100W 12VDC incandescent bulb, that would be 8.3 amps. This would require at least 18AWG wire. The 11W bulb would require 0.9 amps. Virtually any wire would work for that.
NOTE: This is not the case for any fixture with a ballast, such as a florescent fixture that takes the straight tube type bulbs.
