Lower bunk dog crate mod

I have a 79 Trillium Jubilee, fairly standard floor plan across the board though. Anyone have any experience turning the lower bunk space into a dog crate? First time trying to fit the family of 3 and two dogs in our little beauty!

For anyone who is curious or looking to do something similar here’s the outcome.

All made out of scrap 2x4 that I ripped down to 2x2, deck screws, and a tension baby gate for the door. All materials were repurposed so this was a free mod that took no more than 90min start to finish. It’s very rough but did the job and doesn’t look terrible. When I eventually Reno the trailer I will be incorporating something like this into the design!

Nice set up. Of course our "furry girls" would be most annoyed if prevented from joining us in a "puppy pile" for sleeping but with two it does get a bit crowded and in warmer temperatures can be a bit "sticky" to all share a bed.

With screens so easily accessible I can see where leaving a dog loose inside might lead to them making own way out through a screen. SQUIRREL! Zip, no more screen.

And they do have to be parked on bed/seating or couch in order for us to really do much of anything inside so kennel spot seems a good solution.

Is that a ladder on the door side for top bunk access?

Yes, I designed it to incorporate a ladder and bed rail for the top bunk that our 4 year old now uses, much to his delight! The nice thing about bottom bunk for the dogs is they have zero access to anything destroyable.

That table top double is just too small for two humans and two medium to large dogs. I love my pets... I love my sleep more haha.
