Most Fixes have added weight to our toy how about yours?

Do not think we every finish.

Have been making changes for 11 years now and could see needed a User avatar update lol.

Had to get new ST tires when it was new its first trip was to the Goodyear tire dealer.

Was a pretty little trailer when we got it along with little window shutters. They went first as they looked stylish but were rotten wood and caused leaks.

The many problems did not show at sale time but we just keep on doing a little each year. The unit is getting a little tender loving care all the time. Part of the fun of a vintage RV.
Plan on updated pictures of all our finished work, even updated the avatar to show it with the original option of a roll out awning with arms. Have the original options price sheet for our little toy shows the price of our awning with prices from 1978.

Today only the awning arms are original. Replacement roller is way better and the new cloth decreased weight but roller added.
Most fixes have added weight so do not know the current weight, hope have not added much

When I pull it out of storage in back will post pictures of the new look.
Willing to bet that most have an ongoing care of their treasures.

How about yours is it on a diet or at the thanksgiving dinner feast.
We try to keep any additions to min and cut our packing to a min weight.

We are lucky enough to even have the original hub caps shown in the sales add.

Is your trailer on a diet or a thanksgiving dinner?

Good topic. It’s seems worthy improvement adds weight. After ‘finishing’ a complete renovation, I know I’ve given my trailer a new lease on life and a thanksgiving dinner. [emoji16] I haven’t weighed it post reno but given the heavier weight of a stronger/longer frame, plywood cabinet doors and cork flooring, I can feel the weight has increased. It’s still pulls and stops easily and doesn’t bounce as much. The coach is a 1974 so it was important to me to keep the simplicity of the vintage styling while upgrading the system. Something I’ve been contemplating, the original make/model plate with Max weights are still attached. Will this present an issue if I’m required to stop at a weigh station? I suppose I should carry something from the frame builder attesting to the new weight limit.

Funny how things that were once unavailable in campers become luxuries and then necessities. On another RV forum there is an active thread about running an ice cream machine off an inverter.

As a kid we hardly ever ate out, but Mom did have a weakness for soft serve ice cream. When we were traveling cross-country with our pop-up, come 2-3pm in the afternoon, we'd keep our eyes peeled for a Dairy Queen billboard.

Our pop-up had a hand pump water system, a 2-burner stove, a sink that drained to a bucket, and an icebox. That's it. After years with a 10x10 Sears canvas tent and a Coleman white gas stove, we thought it was grand!

Scales; Good idea

We repaneled the cupboards some spots just over the original paneling instead of removal due to location and did some structural fixes to the frames. Added additional doors to cupboards, extra hinge on both bathroom an closet doors. More rivets with additional L brackets, Aubrite to original table top, new counter. The list goes on but the trailer needed it. Tried to keep it as close to original look as possible though. Will have to weigh it one day to see what we added.

The bits of Weight add up

-The cupboard frames have been reinforced in weak spots "more plywood"
-Arbrite added to table top and stove back splash area
-Some additional hinges and doors, extra hinge on bathroom door and closet door. 3 more doors under gaucho with hinges, one new door added front right side over table, and more.
-fixes for upper bunk.
-couple of spots were the new cupboard paneling is on top of the old panelling
-Bigger hot water tank now 4 gallon
-Kitchen tap has pullout head now with weight under sink
-Replacement grey water tank 88.4 lbs, original tank lighter than my wife's purse.

The above weight gain lowers our available room for chairs, clothing, food, etc.

Axle limit is 3000 lbs checked it. Car limit is less.

Water system not copper now so some help and shower taps are now plastic

Will have to next look at places for trailer to go on a diet. To date weight has not affected the mileage pulling. Was told they are so light that it is more about the air we push while pulling. That is why the dealer insisted we get full tow package at time of purchase for our car. As stated before we have a frame hitch, 7 pin wiring, transaxle cooler, full size spare, extra safety systems and more. The setup we have is no longer available through Toyota.

We then had Andy the hitch specialist at Can-am RV in London set it up with WD system and some hitch changes.
