My new trailer....finally home

Hi all :wave

Well, here's what I've gotten myself into:

Dinette (I have all the cushions in the house for recovering):

Kitchen:

As you can see, I've got my work cut out for me. This is my first ever project like this, so I'm sure in no time you'll all be sick of my questions :r
I'm hoping to get the interior done this year, and the exterior next year.

Hi Lainey
That unit looks ok to me.Lots of elbow grease and some paint will do wonders.Have fun with it and ask all the questions you want. This is what this forum is all about.

thanks

Thanks Ches. Yes, she's a pretty solid unit, especially given her age.

Order of doing things?

My biggest challenges on the interior will be the floor repairs, making a porta-potti area under the front bunks, replacement of the roof vent and repair where the roof is sagging.

I took part of the lino off and discovered that the rear window must have a pretty good leak; the plywood has got to be rotten under there. Someone had gone over the damaged flooring with new lino on the raised portion, and the seam tapes in that area looked like they had some mildew (although the trailer generally doesn't seem very mildewy - is that a word?)

Exterior - it's hard to see on those pictures but there are a TON of cracks in the gelcoat, and some minor cracks/scrapes down into the glass. Also, where someone had added the rubber mats on the front, the screws ripped out while I was bringing it home from Edmonton - so a lot of holes to repair.

Maybe leaving the exterior 'till next year won't work? I thought the best method of attack would be to get all the interior done first so that any new holes/rivets could all be dealt with when doing the exterior later on, but I might have to rethink.

Lainey... Cute lil' fix er upper. Nice thing about tha is you can pretty much redo her to your own specs. She looks to be in pretty good shape though, in comparison to some of the other older rigs I've seen. Good luck and most of all have fun!

rear window leaks

Lainey,
Many of the window cutouts in the Boler fiberglass shells are too big. The sealing surface is reduced to 1/4' or less in many places. The rear sliding window will drop down about 1/8" when installed, this drop included with the oversize cut will really reduce the sealing area of the window flange. I bond a 1/8" strip of aluminum to the bottom edge of the fiberglass shell cutout. This strip will generally be 1/4 - 3/8" high and will raise the window up and give you additional sealing area at the top of the window. The aluminum strip is almost full width of the window but stops short of the radii. I drill several 1/16 dia holes in the strip, place the strip on the fiberglass and drill into the fiberglass. I bond the strip with 3M 5200 polyurethane adhesive and push 1/16 dia brass rod into the drilled holes and clip off any protruding rod. This locks the strip into place and when the adhesive cures it is rock solid.
I am in the process of fabricating fiberglass gutters that are the same shape as the aluminum one that is over the door. I will bond these over all of the windows. There were several classic trailers at a car show that had the same aluminum gutter over every window. Some people have used double sided high bond tapes with vynal "J" channel over RV windows.
Good luck,
Rick

....bandage

I don't know, if only Boler's could talk :shg It's a piece of CARPET tied onto the bumper!
I think the previous owner may have had parking problems, as in the Boler hits tree kind....<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3edca07fa577asmilie_lol.gif/>
