Well after a couple of hot weeks of sanding and filling and scraping I have put a finish coat of
paint on FrankenScamp.
To give the background information
And now
I painted with Total Boat one part epoxy primer and Total Boat Wet Edge single part polyurethane
paint.
My plan was to roll and tip and I tried this with the primer and the finish coat, but I am no good at this.
In the end I roll and rolled the primer on the bottom half, sanded all of the streaks etc on the top which I did first.
Then to finish I decided to use my HVLP spray system for the final coat and I did get a good shiny finish, but I am not as happy as I could have been.
For starters the camper shell had been painted (poorly earlier by a previous owner). This is a 1985
Scamp 16 and it was in poor shape and I removed all of the
refrigerator and water heater openings and filled them in with scrap
fiberglass panels from removed interior walls.
The side bathroom window was moved from the side to the new front bath and the original opening filled as well.
In retrospect I would strongly suggest using stripper and fully removing any original
paint so that you don't have any residual lines like I did. Although I sanded the paint smooth the paint lines reappeared in the finish coat, especially where the original
Scamp Decalomania (which was masked on the original paint job making a lot more sanding lines)
Some paint was flaking and it was scraped and sanded off and I thought it was sanded fair and didn't show in the primer coat.
Anyhow it is all one color now!
I would call it a 15 foot paint job.
