Radio Installation

I was thinking about installing a radio in my 98 17' sd and was wondering if anyone has done this before and where did you put it, where did you put the speakers, is an external atenna needed?

There are additional mods done by Phil Moldovan. You can see some of them by looking under the modification heading for his name as the author. Others have done great mods too. I mention Phil specifically because he has done mods in areas you questioned in other posts.

Here are a few photos of my installation in my Boler

The Antena
is hooked up to back of radio. It is made of rubber compound.I just place it in cabinet behind Radio , standing up.Radio waves go through fiberglass so no need to put holes into RV.

This idea I got from some young fellow (PHILL)on this site, so I can't take the credit.
The radio is AM FM with a tape deck.I paid 30.00 CDN for it brand new.I have a cd player with adaptor , so I can go both ways.Hope this helps

The speakers were 20.00 Cdn New.They just screw/bolt up to underside of cabinet.

:wave

Radio Installation

Charlie S. Here's what I did in our 13' Scamp for a sound system. It may seem a little elaborate but it gives us not only AM/FM radio but stereo cassette and CD capability. It is mounted on a shelf that extends off the right side of the upper cabinet. The amplified antenna and a CB radio are mounted underneath the shelf. As the stereo radio was a dual voltage unit (110VAC and 12VDC by batteries), it and the CB are supplied with 12VDC switchable from either a 12VDC power supply or main trailer battery. The left hand stereo speaker is mounted on the left side of the upper cabinet. To round out this "entertainment center" I am in the process of installing a 5" dropdown color TV underneath the shelf. This will be completed shortly a will post pictures of it soon. The CB radio also has the 9 weather channels---very handy.

An automobile radio makes an excellent RV radio as it already runs on 12v. Speakers can generally be located under cabinets and yes you do need an antenna external to the radio but not external to a fiberglass RV as fiberglass is pretty much transparent to radio signals. It can be concealed in or under a cupboard.
Here's how I did it in our Scamp.

Shows the radio as well as a LCD TV, Telephone, outside telephone and ethernet connections and an audio connection to the "Aux" input to the radio so that we can play the TV or tapes through the radio/CD sound system.

LCD TV

Larry,

What size and brand TV do you have? I've been looking at some and trying to make a decision on which one to get. I have been looking at 15 and 17 inch ones.

Thanks

It is a Sharp 10.4 inch Model LC-10A3U pictured below.
I also bought the optional Custom Mount for Under-Cabinet Installation Model AN-LCVM10.
I purchased it at Best Buy

Radio

I have had my 16' Scamp for about a month now. Just last night I put a radio in. I purchesed an under the counter kitchen radio from Sony. I mounted it over the sink. It works great, drilled four holes, four screws and pluged it in.
