rear exterior storage container
I tried to search this forum for info, but had little luck.
Here's what I'm after.
We have a 2016 Casita 17' SD.
I ordered, and will install, a rear receiver hitch from "Casita Works".
I will attach a Harbor Freight cargo carrier ~47" x 20" platform.
I"M SEARCHING FOR A STORAGE CONTAINER TO INSTALL ON THE CARRIER.
-I want it durable but somewhat light. ie aluminum, fiberglass, polypropylene, etc
-It would be nice for it to be white to match Casita
-I would like to maximum container dimensions that will fit on platform
-so far I've found a 42" aluminum storage container that fits for $200
-I am acutely aware of trailer towing dynamics (tongue/traiier weight ratio etc)
-Any ideas ?

You can look for "Dock box" to find quite a lot of choices:
Here's one that perfectly matches your requirements:
- White
- 48"x20"
- Durable
- "Lightweight"

Thanks Alan !!!
You got me going in the right direction.
A little pricey, but perfect otherwise.

I added a Stow-Away roto-molded carrier box several years ago, (with the fixed frame mount, not the swing-away mount,) and I love it. Not cheap, but well built. I also stand on it when I'm washing the trailer roof. (It has about 100 Lbs. of stuff in it, and I weigh another 260 Lbs. on top of that.)

I got one to fit my Harbor Freight gizmo at Walmart. They only come in black it is lockable and very light. I think it was $30.00. Rigged a new license plate holder up because of the obvious blockage. Also put a platform on/over the propane tanks. This evens out the weight front and back before you put anything in or on it. The rear hitch is well made about 45 lbs but the casita frame is light weight don't overload.

Whoa! What about all the warnings of putting a load on the rear of the trailer causing a sway factor???? They say not even a bicycle!! Hello, I'm confused!!!

Had one for hauling a small handicap scooter on the back of my Honda Odyssey. It broke off and decorated I-90 somewhere in Montana several years back. DW was driving and I was dozing, grand kids in back seat. We never felt or heard a thing. The carrier, scooter, and license plate disappeared somewhere in Montana. Think I'll forgo a carrier on the back of the Scamp! Oh, it was their part that attached to my hitch receiver that broke. Was guaranteed to support my scooter, but they sent me a nasty e-mail accusing me of trying to scam them. So much for a guarantee!!!

Yea you are confuzed. The rear 2" hitch ,that is and the weight of the bike rack about 35 to 45 lbs with 2, 35 lb ,bikes causes no sway. In the example I gave. The rear hitch weight is offset by the front platform which weighs 66 lbs . Now real world example I have both front and back examples and 2 bikes 1/4 tank of water all the time . NO sway, no sway bar no, WD hitch, none, just a f150 2.7 and off we go any where. Sway is a big deal and should not be discarded. You need to test your set up and see what works. You will know right away if it sways and then correct the problem.

When the original poster stated this, it negated any need to discuss sway etc. in my mind.
He/She clearly has thought about this and doesn't need advise on this particular aspect of a rear cargo carrier.

Rear cargo
Thank you Alan. I am the original starter of this post.
Yes, one can't make blanket statements about situations like this.
Of course, you can get into serious trouble with a rear cargo carrier, but you can also do it correctly.
It's rather simple, and not the purpose of this post, but anyway:
-Rear receivers can't be attached to most fiberglass rear bumpers. They're not meant to carry weight. Receivers should be attached properly to trailer frames.
-Trailer tongue weight should be 10-15% of trailer weight. In my case, 17' Casita Spirit Deluxes are tongue heavy to begin with, so I hope to balance it out a little better. with a rear carrier. If not, I'll shift weight around or add something to the front (like Alan did) until I meet the 10-15% requirement.
-The attitude of the trailer should be level or slightly nose down.
-If you're going to undertake a modification like this, do your homework.
-And if you're going to make blanket statements, think and research first.
Now having said all this, please, anyone, let me know if I've missed anything or misspoke.

Rear Cargo
I meant "old Steve", not "Alan", when referring to adding front platform to offset rear weight.

Just that "slightly nose down" applies to single axle trailers. Tandem axle trailers should be level. Or, so I'm told.

Thanks Glenn for the correction.
A trailer with 2 or more axles of course needs to be level.
Every once in a while common sense should prevail.
If a trailer with multiple axles is not level, it logically would put more force on one axle, and less on another.
The only way to adjust the level of a trailer is to get the proper ball mount with appropriate rise or drop. There are simple calculations and diagrams to determine the rise or drop you need to achieve a level trailer. Draw Tite, Curt, etc has this information on their websites.

Rear storage
I like my tough Box. A plastic container. Doesn’t block rear trailer lights and you can stack two high.
Also have aluminum storage container on the tongue that locks
Life is good.
