Removing a microwave

I never use this appliance, which is located above the tall cupboard in my 13 foot Trillium/Outback. I cannot figure out how to remove it, so that I can re-purpose the space. Any tips from my wise fellow-forumers?

Do you see any screws? Will it slide out? A picture will help.

Taking a photo only occurred to me after I posted, of course. Picture = thousand words will follow soon…

Thanks. I’ll try it right now…
The aluminum trim is very snug - it may be glued to the fibreglass. Just to recap, I want to remove this and turn it into usable storage

It looks like there is a lip on the bottom that prevents it from slipping out.
See if you can remove that lip.
Open the cabinet under it to see if there are any fasteners holding it in.

I can get a grip of the microwave. It’s evidently attached to something, but I can’t see what or how…

Look in the top of the cabinet below the microwave. There should be screws there. Remove the screws and it should pull right out. You will have to find out where it is plugged in.

Camping was invented before microwaves...

Removing a microwave that's not needed for off-grid camping just makes sense, and it can be re-installed later if your needs change or if you sell it.

The microwave in our Class B was mounted to a base that slid into the cabinet and was secured with two smell screws from below. I'd expect something like that. Undo the screws, then lift and slide the microwave out. Before you get it all the way out, you'll need to unplug the cord. The outlet could be in the same cabinet or an adjacent cabinet. Might take a second person.

All else fails, contact Outback Trailers. They're still in business.

Unplug it and use it just for storage. Use the space as is or install removable dividers.. Works great and already has a good, secure door latch.
Then, when you change your mind , plug it back in again.
What you'll gain storage-wise is not worth the effort and expense to remove it and modify the space.

Besides, the next owner might love having a microwave oven for, quick meals,
re-heating beverages or for drying the cat.

Removal of microwave

We remove microwave for dry camping trips and put it back for hook up trips. Makes for great storage, just don't put anything that the heat from refrigerator will below will spoil.

Leftover food is not a camping phenomenon I’m acquainted with. But hypothetically speaking, a pan and stove would suffice. I’m almost never in a place that provides shore power, besides!

I've heard it's not safe to run a microwave empty.

I’ve never seen the words leftover and bacon used together until now.

Leftover bacon goes into a BLT. Could there be any other answer?

When we grill over a fire in the evening, we intentionally cook extra meat and veggies. Chopped, sautéed, and folded in a tortilla with some egg and hot sauce makes a quick, flavorful, hot breakfast you can eat out of hand.

You could do it in a microwave of course, but it tastes so much better from a skillet. And like you, we rarely have power.
