Replacing old carpet on interior walls & ceiling

Hi all.

I'm planning to replace the musty, moldy old deep-pile carpet that covered most of the ceiling and walls in my fiberglass Cabana trailer. Most of the old carpeting is out but there are remnants of the pad, glue, etc. still present on the rough fiberglass interior. I also have to temporarily remove the window frames, cabinets, etc. to remove some more carpet pieces.

My questions are: Is there a safe substance for removing the old glue, backing, etc. but that won't harm the fiberglass?

What would anyone recommend to replace the carpet? Money is a concern. How about automotive carpeting since it doesn't have a backing?

What would be some adhesive choices for the new covering?

Thanks.

Hi John, to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here

I'm not familiar with the Cabana brand. Does it look like this?

There are several solutions... personally, I like this one. It solves the insulation issue and it's colorful! http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ion-46674.html

Thanks Donna. Yes, that is actually my Cabana. I purchased it in Oregon. Like you, I had never heard of them before. I've only been able to find a bit of information about them. Most Cabanas out there seem to be the motor homes.

John I just replaced all the liner in my Cloud. To strip paint and other junk I used a "stripping wheel" It looks sort of like a coarse sponge dipped in brown paint. Wear a mask and be careful to not eat away too much fg. I replaced it with a foam-backed headliner material that looks good and was a snap to install w/ 3M spray headliner & fabric adhesive. Headliner comes in many colors but gray & black is available at most big fabric stores.
