Replacing Refigerator

The original finally crappied out. When I removed it was nasty with mud dapper nests. So preppingn the space for replacement. Painted inside with a gloss ,two coats, as was raw glass and wood. Glueing screen to the inside of the
louver vents to keep future wasps out. I have capped off the propaine feed and 12 volt lines and added a 120 plug box . We do not boondock, and should we ,carry a duel fuel generator.. for now found a Frigidaire that fits the space close. Boxing in new frigde with 2"x2" lumber to prevent shifting and framing the face with some light allunimum angle riveted into the origingal rivet holes in fiberglass. Easy to convert back to the original propane/ 12 volt should the desire ever come.

You can run it while driving by sending 110 AC to the trailer from a suitably sized inverter in the tow vehicle. I did that with a pop-up for years.

Not exactly easy to convert back, because no one makes a small absorption fridge in that size any more. Dometic was the last, and they dropped their 1.9cf model around 2020. You’d have to find a used one that still works.

Speaking of which, as long as the cooling loop is intact, your fridge might be repairable. Consider offering it as a free haul-away before consigning it to the landfill. It’s a long shot, because people won’t travel far for an iffy fridge, especially an older one, but no harm in trying.

Finished

Added foam piece on either side in cabinet and a angle iron bracket inside cabinet from backside to further secure. Quick weldup and drilled a copy of top hinge to function as door lock .

Nicely done!

Since you don't often dry glamp, that should serve you very well. And as you indicated, if you do dry glamp, a generator is the best means to power a compressor refrigerator and an air conditioner if you have one. We would also highly recommend using a propane generator. We personally use a highly reliable, lightweight and quiet Honda EU2200i generator that was modified with a Hutch Mountain propane conversion kit. Our generator directly receives propane from our trailer dual 20 pound propane tanks using a MB Sturgis Quick Connect Sturgi-Stay placed between the tanks and trailer propane regulator and using various lengths of high pressure propane hose that can be connected together to locate the generator as desired.

https://mbsturgis.com/products/5th-w...t-sturgi-stay/

Gasoline generator exhaust smells awful, gasoline goes bad and gasoline gums up carburetors. Using propane doesn't create these issues and also avoids the hassle of sourcing/storing gasoline. And if you dry glamp, one will always need to source propane anyhow for one's propane absorption refrigerator, furnace and stove.

More photos and details of this Casita trailer modification and all our other many Casita trailer modifications may be found by Googling our trailer name if interested.
