Running the 110 behind the backsplash

Hi, I’m Jerry and my wife is Shannon. We have a 1973 trillium 1300. It’s a very clean unit with a few small issues. We are planning to modernize it a bit, add batteries, inverter, new interior doors and some plugs and switches. I’m a long time carpenter that can tackle pretty much any job. Right now I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to rerun a new 110 wire up behind the stove to the upper cabinet. The original works, but it’s been tapped into at some point and is a couple inches shorter( plus it’s age). I’m replacing the octagon pull boxes with plastic version as the originals are a tad rusty and corroded. Can a small hole behind the backsplash be drilled from underneath to get from the lower cavity to the cavity behind the backsplash?
Thanks, Jerry

Anyway you can use the existing wire as a fish... if you’re planning on replacing it I’d try and connect my new wire to it and use it to slowly and gently pull in the new wire

The wire goes into the bottom of the back splash at the rear end of the kitchen. It is drilled into the closed gap between the back splash and the outer shell. The best way to get to this spot is to remove the furnace. It should be noted that this is not easy. The telescoping exhaust / combustion air vent is usually rusted, and no longer telescopes. Removing the furnace frequently destroys it. In the upper cabinet, the gap is open, but covered by Ensolite.

The pictures below are from two trailers. The under the counter picture is from 13-609 a 1300, and the upper cabinet picture is from 45-1100036 a 4500, with no 110 above the sink, but you get the idea.

I’m not familiar with the Trillium trailer so I’m not sure what you use the 110v for in the upper cabinet, in my Boler it was used for just a fluorescent light under the cabinet, you may have an exhaust fan or something else that requires 110v., but in my case it was only the light. So I replaced the wire with 12v wire and hooked up 3 led pot lights. They give us lots of light and have the advantage of working when we camp off grid. I know this didn’t help with getting the wire up there, but if you can use the old one as a pull string, it might be easier to pull up the 12 volt wire. Just a thought.

The 120V wire run to the upper galley cabinet is for the light fixture there. I traded it out for an LED one and added another. I was able to fish new wires up from below by going behind the backsplash.

I agree with switching out your 120v light fixtures for 12v LED. You can run additiinal lines up their for other accessories off a 12v outlet as well.

I plan to run 120VAC to the upper cabinet of a 4500, which only has 12VDC at the moment. I want to hang a small microwave above the sink.

Jerry - if you have no future need for AC power in the light location you can use the existing Romex wire to feed 12 volts to the light location - wire must be disconnected from AC source & you must determine if it is a dedicated line ( does not T anywhere) Easy Peasy.. . OOPS - edit: just reread your 1st post - forget what I recommended!

Head to Home Depot, Lowes, your local hardware store and go to the electrical wiring aisle. Then look for on the surface wire covers. They make them in adhesive backed versions in metal and plastic. This is going to be an easy way to route the wire while also protecting it and having a nice clean looking finish. Easy DIY for someone without a lot of skills.

Here is a link to some of the options from Home Depot.

Sorry for the long wait in reply. I wanted to keep the 110 up there for future use. I also ran 12v.The hole is about 1/2” by 1”. I stayed close to the exterior of the shell so I wouldn’t poke out passed the backsplash. How can I upload pics? I have a few of my process
