I am at the later stages of a major rebuild of my 1975
Scamp 13. I removed the spare tire from the rear of the trailer as per factory mount because the bolt holes had been leaking and the wood backing was rotten ( I filled 118 holes in the outside of Lazarus, my trailer). My intention was to make a spare tire carrier and mount it to the rear bumper. I did make and mount the tire briefly. But I found the 2 sided bumper is not beefy enough to carry the load without strengthening it.
So I would like to mount the tire on the font of my trailer just behind the jack. I had a t@b trailer just previous to my
Scamp and mounted the tire up front, as did many others. It worked fine on my t@B and would like to do the same on my
Scamp. The way I attach it is to use a short commercially available carrier modified with 2 muffler clamps that hold it securely to the front jack. The tire would rest on a platform that I have built on the A-frame. Also, on the A-frame is 1 standard
propane bottle and 1 gr. 27
battery...same as I had on my t@b. There is no problem with the security of attachment for these items. So why doesn't anyone else do this? Thank you in advance for your answers.
