Scamp 13' Table Mod

Our used 2013 Scamp dining table started to come apart. The flanges attached to the table were also bent, so we created our own custom DIY dining table.

We used 3/4 birch, added a map with mod podge, aluminum banding, Art Resin topping, and new hardware from Scamp.

* To make the molding bend around the corners, we had to make sure the corners were at leat 4" diameter and used a heat gun.

The Mod Podge kept the map down on the table well enough so we could pour the Art Resin on top for a really thick clear coat.

The map was also a vinyl type of map (not paper).

Nice, clever & useful.

Great tool for teaching kids that Boise is not in Iowa. The finish will serve you well when someone spills corn syrup into the Mississippi River.

Geography seems to have fallen by the wayside in many public schools. With some guys on a father-son campout a couple of weeks ago and the subject of the 13 stripes on the flag came up. None of the boys could name a single one of the original 13 colonies-become-states. I got answers like Washington, California, and even China. Scary!

Part of the problem, I think, is the disappearance of large-scale paper maps. Computers and mobile devices show such a small slice it's easy to lose the big picture.
