Has anyone added drawers to the bottom of the hanging closet?

Larry a number of folks have modified the closet area to a more useful storage site. Some have used wood for shelves, others the white "mesh" closet stuff. This is what I bought last week at a store called Reno-Depot (about same as Home Depot). 29,97$ total, CAD.

The size is 25" high, 15 1/4 wide and 16 1/4" deep. The width of my closet opening is 15 1/2" so it fit perfectly. still have 4 1/2" each side for hanging clothes. Other space is available on top of the cabinet. I did not use the caster included.

I made a 3 inches high base with 1/2" thick plywood. Otherwise, it would not be possible to open the lower drawer. But I also made a 12" x 12" opening on the plywood so there is no lost space. Removing the lower drawer gives access to that little "basement" where I will store not often needed things.

But if you prefer just one or 2 drawers, they are also available. I saw them at many place. Not necessary the same brand.

What a good idea. We have a set of drawers just like yours taking up space in a bedroom closet. We used it in our Coleman tent trailer before we purchased our Casita.

I tried to fit it in the closet. Didn't fit because of the curve of the egg.

What a simple solution. Can't wait to try it this weekend. Maybe a base made out of PVC pipe would also work. Our trailer is at a storage lot. Darn!

I like everyones ideas so far, but I didn't make my self clear.
I have the side toilet, front seat, which leaves the hanging closet to store everything. I would like to leave the top hanging part and cut out and add drawers to the lower section. I have thought of two ways That this could be done first cut out and reniforce the fiberglass install plastic drawers like the ones above then add a door to cover them. second make them out of wood like the silverware drawer.

not having a Scamp, I'm trying to picture, in my mind, what you mean. you have a closet with a boxed in space underneath it? there could be something already there, like a water tank or something. :chin I can't see them just closing up storage space.

Although I don't have a Scamp, I have a space under my closet door, so I think I know what you're talking about.

I have considered adding an extra door underneath but never thought about a drawer. Perhaps even seperating the two with a shelf or removable floor.

We have a 16ft Scamp with the same closet style. I never could understand why they designed that premium storage space to be so inaccessible. I have thought about installing a longer door, adding another lower door, shelves or drawers. But until I get motivated enough to do something about it, we put a garbage bag with a drawstring in that space for our dirty clothes.

Since we do more cooking than dressing up when traveling, I am considering removing or modifying that cabinet to make more counter space for the kitchen.

My furnace is that "extra" space....if you don't have a furnace, that space is probably empty. But, I like the idea of using every bit of space for storage. To keep it simple, I'd cut out an area and install a door, insert a couple of stacking rubbermaid-type totes that fit inside that could be used for clothes, canned food, whatever.:reye2

On my Scamp 13 (1987), the bottom 6" of that "space" is part of the frame. It's not really usable space. Look at it carefully from underneath before you go poking holes in the fiberglass! Under the side closet, by the way, is the wheelwell, so there's not much space available there, either.

On the 16 ft Scamp with the side toilet and small cooler-ref.
there is a hanging closet on curb side of trailer near the front door.
there is a 34 inch empty space below the hanging part of the closet
We have been using the space for dirty laundry using two mesh bags. I would like to use this space for a set of drawers to hold some of our stuff and store the dirty things under the front seat storage bin. while in Ren fro valley I had several casaita owners
tell me they wish they had the storage I already have. but I would like more. yes Jana, Scamp did leave this space unused I think the makers of scamp don't do much camping. just a thought, not a slam.

I bought a set of plastic drawers aprox. 13X15X24.
After measuring very very carefully I cut an opening big enought to get the drawers open but small enought so the frame around the drawers would be held into place by the fiberglass. I ordered an 18X32 door and all the hardware from Scamp. should be here tomorrow or wednesday7-23. so far so good this should free up the clutter on the front couch.

We have a 16ft. Scamp side bathroom with front sofa. I have often wondered what would go in that bottom closet if I didn't have drawers in it. ( I know some Scamps have side AC)

One of the former owners made two drawers for the bottom closet.
They cut two pieces of chip board to go against the side of the closet. I don't know if they are glued but I see no holes. Then two rails one on each side(wood running front to back) This is repeated again a little lower for a total of two draws.

A piece of chip board was cut and put across the closet rail to rail. This looks like a shelf. This is repeated for a second shelf. Each of these shelves have a square rails on each side on the top. They are to guide the drawers. The drawers are made of chip board and they slide on the shelf between the rails.

The drawers are on the top of the closet and on bottom I have two Tupperware containers I keep food supplies.

The front sofa is still a mess. I kept the dirty clothes under the sofa by the door until we had a fire at the fuse last year.

Plastic drawers installed, 18X32 door from Scamp arrived today wed 23 installed and looks great just two long doors where one was before. I'll try pics later. Thanks for heads up about fuse and fire in front storage I'll have to check it out and make sure it's ok.
