Scamp upper cabinet support

We upgraded our Scamp upper cabinet support to the new pine tree design. I've got the old wrought iron support, free to anyone missing theirs and wanting to restore to original specs. Seems a shame to toss (recycle) it.

For those who have not done the upgrade, the new support is a nice compliment to the interior. The holes didn't quite line up so I had to drill new ones, but otherwise no complaints.

I would like to swap out my old support for the new pine tree but am wary about drilling new holes. Can you see the old holes? Did you patch them?

As ever the request on this board, could you supply a picture?

Thank you!
Jenny

I should have snapped a photo, sorry. I’ll try to remember next time I’m there. In terms of screw holes, there were a total of 6, of which I had to redrill 5. All of the old holes were covered by the new bracket so I didn’t bother filling them in. The 2 upper screws appear to tap into wood backing behind the fiberglass. I can’t recall if the lower 4 also had wood backing or not. I was disappointed that the holes didn’t line up. I suspect the issue is the way the old twisted metal brackets are made, mine didn’t look like a precision piece of work. The pine tree looks more consistent.

Thank you! One more question. In the stock photo on the Scamp trailer website, the bottom doesn't look like it has a bracket (red circle and question mark in screenshot). It appears to end with two long metal bars but I don't see how that would work to distribute the weight along the bottom. From your description it sounds like there is a horizontal bracket across the top and the bottom. Can you confirm?

That’s pretty much what it looks like. There are 2 holes in each of the bottom legs. Those legs line up with the 2 on the old style bracket but the holes weren’t even close on mine. The new bracket felt a little more substantial, if anything. Beautiful dark bronze color. We just picked up a paper towel holder from Target that matches pretty close, we’re mounting that over the sink on the left. Now that I’m comfortable drilling holes in my fiberglass.

No new holes

We replaced our cabinet support some years ago using a piece of wood effectively matching our new cabinet doors. This did not require any new holes.

I put screws in the cabinet's existing holes so they stood up above the counter and matching holes in the bottom of the wood. The wood was slipped over the wood effectively pinning the bottom. I used the holes in the upper cabinet and screwed thru the cabinet into the wood.

You beat me to it. Oh well, here are a couple more pics. My bracket straddles to furnace control.

And it keeping with my vow to post all my goofs, I will soon have an answer to the earlier question about filling holes. I bought a matching paper towel holder that I mounted to the side of the upper microwave cabinet, just to the left of the sink. Then I attempted to slide a roll of towels onto the horizontal bar which points toward to outside. I had mounted it without testing the clearance. No way to get a roll on, the bar is just too close to the wall. So I had to move it out away from the wall. I was able to reuse one of the two holes I drilled but I did have to drill a new hole. Maybe I can mount a hook for an oven mitt using that unwanted screw hole...

Thanks for the photos! In my mind's eye I saw a flat bracket on the bottom countertop and not the two bars straddling the thermostat. But, of course that's how it is! I should look in my camper before posting next time.

It is still available. It would just cost you shipping to Vermont.

Just to confirm this is what you are looking for. Note there is a slight defect in the finish. It came from Scamp that way. Send me your address and I’ll figure out shipping. Do you do paypal or venmo?

Looks like the USPS price to ship this is $12.35. I think they get a bit of a premium for oversize packages, this one will be about 27" long.
