Sink cover
Can anyone tell me where they got thier cover for the sink? My wife would like to have the added counter space when the sink is not in use. She noticed a couple of pics where it looks like there is some sort of handles on either side to lift it out!?? Thanks!

Is your trailer a Scamp? What about ordering one from them? My '84 Scamp still has the original sink cover. You might also find one at a large RV store.

Ours was a Dollar Store cutting board. I had to round the corners a bit to fit the sink. Here is a link to a photo, if that is what your wife is talking about.

I was thinking of attaching something like handles to the BOTTOM of my sink cover.... So that I can leave it on the sink during travel and not find it on the other side of the Scamp! For now, I put it on the sofa during travel.

My hubby made a hinged one that flips over the sink when not in use and adds additional counter space when I am using it. I then have counter space to put the dishrack on. He used 2 plastic cutting boards from Walmart that he cut up. One is on a hinge attached to the side of the counter that swings out to act as as the support for the other board. This other board is on a hinge that flips the cutting board over the support when it is extended into more counterspace over the bed. I use it extended for draining dishes as I wash them at the sink. When the dishes are done, we flip the board back over the sink.
I took pix at some point. If someone wants me to post them, I can hunt them up or take new.

Yes, please....I want more top space as I don't really plan to use the sink or stove that much preferring to cook outside.

Brian,
The handles are plastic coated wire that fit into holes drilled into the sides of the cutting board. It came that way presumably to allow the board to fit onto different sized sinks.
FWIW,
I was at IKEA recently and saw a number of sink covers/ accesories in their kitchen section. I made a mental note of wanting to return once we get the Trill out of storage and start working on it again.
Sinks & faucets - Sinks & Faucets - IKEA
Here is a simple wood one that could be easily cut to size:
IKEA | Sinks & faucets | Sink accessories | DOMSJÖ | Chopping board
I picked up a large wire mesh sink strainer for my work years ago, it has SS or plated wires that could be adapted to the plastic cutting board.

I made mine. It's not hard. It you don't have the woodworking tools to do it yourself, I bet you have a neighbor that does.

This is my sink cover. I purchased it at Walmart in the kitchen section. This wooden cutting board came with the plastic handles and all I had to do is round the corners for it to fit in the sink.

Our sink cover that came with the Scamp is kind of flimsy so I have a heavier one. I don't usually do alot in the Scamp anyway and now that we have alot more room then our 13' we no longer need to store things of mass distruction there.

Here's pix of the sink cover that flips that the hubby made of cut-up Walmart cutting boards. When I do the dishes, I pull out the support and flip the cover open. It holds the dish drain rack. When the dishes are dry, I flip it back over the sink and push the support against the countertop. It works very nicely.

Cindy, I like that setup! I might do something similar... It would make dinner prep and dish washing so much easier!
By the way, is that an ashtray below it?

Hi: All...Our sink cover is like a lot of trailers...simply the cut-out from installing the sink!!! It's usually finished around the edges with a router and a 1" finger hole incase you cut off your...to much info. OUCH!!! We have a non-skid cutting board on top of it and a wonderfull BBQ tray that's the same size as the 3 burn stove cover. We also have the flip up counter extension that Reace at Escape installs to extend the space a bit more. No matter what size trailer you have it seems there's never enough counter space!!!

McBrew,
Yes, it is an ashtray. We don't smoke, so we are open to other ideas to use it.
One thing I found is that water from the dishes in the rack dripped onto the bed until we bought a draining rack and put the edge over into the sink. Then the water drained into the sink. Frankly, now with the setup, I just set up the draining rack, do up the dishes, and go off sight-seeing, letting them air-dry.

I use a metal rack that you cool cookies on. It allows you to pour into the sink without moving things on top.
