Small access door on Scamp curbside to rear dinette seat

I am thinking about putting a small access hatch on the side of my Scamp 16 so I can get to the water tank drain valve, fresh water filter, etc. from the outside.
I think this item would work.

The trailer body is curved but I think I could bend this steel hatch oriented with the hinge at the top and have it fit well.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Looks doable Doug. Don't know how much curve you need but I wonder with the recess bends of the base plate if you'll get a clean bend. I'd try bending it first before cutting any hole though. Let us know how it works out.

I had a hatch on my previous trailer. It was mounted on a flat panel. It had a rubber seal around the door opening. I don't see any seal here. Over the 6 years I owned the trailer the hatch never leaked but the seal was starting to wear. As handy as the hatch was to gain easy entry into the storage area, I dont think I would add one. I have too many holes in my trailer hull as is. Raz

Lots of people have added hatches to their Scamps. It shouldn't be to much of a problem.

I put this marine hatch on my Scamp for an outside storage bin.

They have several sizes and styles.
They are plastic and have a rubber gasket for a good seal and will flex a little to mount to slightly curved surfaces.
Here is a different one I used for the doors fro my hose reels.

Here is a link to the ebay store for hatches etc:

When I relocated my shore cord and made it detachable, I installed the door shown below in the place where the stock cord opening was.
This door is only 6-1/2" X 7-1/2" but it is plenty large enough to access the space behind the water heater and under the bench.
We keep such things as spare cords and lighters a tarp and rain ponchos triangle road reflectors and miscellaneous other items in that space.
Access is easy with the key and all items fit through the door comfortably.
