Everything was first cleaned with a scotch-brite pad soaked in acetone then wiped up with paper towels soaked in acetone.
All the
paint was removed with 2" twist on scotch-brite type disks and wheels on my drill. I also got scotch-brite type disks for my angle grinder. The rust was removed as much as possible and then everything steel was painted with rust converter as a primer coat. Then multiple coats of rustoleum high heat
paint put on quite thick so as to fill most rust pitting. I didn't want to use any filler in case it would start to rise under high heat.
All the aluminum and brass was polished with Autosol polish. All screws were replaced with stainless upon reassembly.
If anyone attempts this male sure you take lots of pictures during tear down so you can reference them for reassembly.
