My '78 Surf Side 14 came with a well supported set of roof racks--something I hadn't seen before. Was this a common option and were there issues related to such fitment? On mine there's no evidence of leaking nor emergency repairs at the mounting points, so that's all good.

Previous owner occasionally lofted his aluminum boat up there and somehow managed to do that without scrapes or dings, happily.

I like the notion of using these racks but need to devise an access method, likely from the aft bumper.
