Tired of jacking up and down!

Been thinking of this one for some time now. Unfortunately I had to replace my original jack to get one with top access. The side crank on the original jack was curved too close to the column to allow for this kind of mod. Just a simple piece of brass hex bar stock, a little drilling and tapping. I used 3/4 inch to be compatible with the drive screws on the stabilizer jacks. (And I had the piece of stock in my scrap brass bin)

Me Too!

I have the 19' Scamp with landing gear and a very low gear ratio crank. Lots of turns to get anywhere.

I've been thinking of the same thing. I think I have to buy a second crank handle and cut it off to make something to fit my drill.

Good job on your mod!

Doesn't your Scamp have a two speed gear box like on big freight trailers ? On those you push in the handle for one speed, pull it out for the other.

I use my Dewalt power drill for the stabilizers and the Ultimate Jack is easy to setup as it has locking pin that lets you raise an lower it a lot quickly and easily.

Great conversion, but it can be done just as easily with a side crank.

Side (curved handle) crank converted...
Even saved the original handle in a box somewhere. (for no good reason)
Battery drill or BAL stabilizer crank works it...
This conversion is a simple piece of drillrod with a hole drilled for the rollpin to hold the pinion gear.
I welded a nut on it for the wrench.
It could be done with a cut off shoulder bolt to avoid welding.

Nope. The scamp has a pin through holes, allowing you to drop and raise each foot independently by large amounts. However it takes about 10 cranks just to drop the cup down onto the ball of the hitch.

Fun mods, but I took the lazy way out and use a power jack. A bit over $100.

Tired of jacking up and down

Been using a drill on my Scamp 19 since we bought it. So much easier and faster.

What did you use to make the crank?

I bought a piece rod and a sleeve at Lowes. Pinned the rod and sleeve together and cut a slot in the end of the sleeve, just use the hand crank as a pattern.

Great mods, but not for me. My wife likes to raise and lower the jack. I need to be careful not to get hit in the head while plugging in and attaching the chains.

You know they make a hitch jack that you use your drill on.

I can use a drill to lower the 19er, but have you been able to use a drill to raise it? Our old 19 from '86 does not have the pins that allow for rapid dropping of the landing gear....therefore, endless tedious cranking.

Do people really find the manual crank that frustrating? I usually use 1 finger to quickly get the jack down to the ground and then its only but a few turns with very little force to get the scamp level. Then the same in reverse, no battery or drill to worry about. Not trying to be a smarty pants about it, just wondering as this is about last on my list of ideas? I had the chance to change jacks last year when I needed to make a modification to fit a tongue box. I chose instead to just reweld the jack to face forward.
