Work In Progress - '75 Boler 13

Here are some shots of my 75 Boler 13. The first is purchase day a little over a year ago. I just started the restore last month. The second shot was taken in my back yard last summer. The third is after two coats of primer and seven coats of marine enamel. The colour is very close to an actual robin egg.

Further Work

I removed and replaced all of the wiring. Here I am testing the lights. A top view of the paint and a shot of the belly band, which I decided not to paint.

Thanks.
The inside was gutted by a previous owner. Someone also cut the ensolite in several places and glued carpet ceiling to floor. The glue he used was still tacky after 3 years of exposure to air. The sharpy notes are someone elses too. I plan to keep the layout pretty much original but will replace the doors and table with plywood, add 12 volt led lighting, a fantastic fan and a furnace when I can afford one.

After Days of Scrubbing

It was tough to get it to this point. As of last night after a final scrub with tsp and a rinse.

The exterior paint is Marine Enamel from Cloverdale Paints except the black which is Tremclad. I rolled it on with a foam roller and wet sanded every second coat. There is some orange peel texture to it but I don't mind that. I would have done this last year if I had a garage but I don't so I had to wait for an opportunity. The shop in the photos is my son's place of business where he keeps his trucks and chippers etc. for his tree care business. Right now one of the trucks is being parked outside. I am working full time on the Boler now in order to get as much done as possible before my welcome runs out. Missed one day in the past month or so.

One tip I would offer when painting with enamel is that the coat following a wet sanding goes on very nicely and looks better than a second one without sanding. I followed a procedure that recommended two coats, sand, two more, sand etc. I would suggest sanding prior to the last coat no matter what method you are following.

The tail lights, bumper and exposed frame are Tremclad gloss black. The body is marine enamel. I was told that they are virtually identical formulas.

Randy, nice start and the color is great. I also did my own paint job and had a little orange peel, but it hid some of the problem area's so I didn't mind. Keep up the excelent work.

What did you use to illuminate the license plate with the blue color?

License Plate

That blue light is a little unit I picked up at Canadian Tire for about $12. It is a clear plastic backing with some blue leds directed through it. I thought it was a nice touch without being too tacky.

More Progress

Today I finished painting the interior walls. I put one coat of Kilz primer on followed by two coats of Behr Semi-gloss pure white. Here are before and after pics.

Floor

Since I had not run out of energy I decided to put a coat of Tremclad primer on the floor. That took care of the rest of my energy.

I did that stuff using Tremclad (Rustoleum) tintable water-based enamel. I wet sanded then washed with liquid tsp concentrate, rinsed and put on two coats. That required one 900+ ml can. There are about 50 colours available. I will add pictures when I start putting those back in over the next couple of days.
