Yet another Scamp window A/C closet install.

OK folks, I have been considering adding a window A/C in the closet of my Scamp for some time. I was re-inspired by Bryan L.'s install from this link:

http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...amp-42413.html.

Here is my version of the closet install:

Each photo caption describes what's happening. If anything is unclear, let me know and I will try to clarify.

Thanks,

Allen

Looks really good. Please report back on how well it works once you have tried it for a while.

Thanks Erik. Initial test seem satisfactory. Since cool air naturally sinks, and warm air rises, the temperature inside depends on elevation, as it seems there is as much as a 10 degree difference between the floor and ceiling. Since the unit is so low, it recirculates the cooler air instead of drawing in warm air and generating cool air as a ceiling unit would do. I think a small fan to direct some cool air upwards would help a lot during the day. At night, probably not needed since we're just 2' off the floor. At night is when we need A/C the most, as during the day we're outside swimming, hiking or biking anyway.

I will give real-world results when I am able to test in the field, but right now, that may not be until next summer!

Great job! You posted this in 2010.... now that you've been out camping & tested it in the field, what were the real world results? Are you satisfied that it performed as you'd hoped?

Barb,

I do not recall ever using the Scamp in the dead of summer after I installed the A/C - seems we always camped in the fall after I installed it, and didn't get a good chance to test it. We sold the Scamp a year or two later.

However, I have no doubt it would have made a big difference, and having it helped me find a buyer when we were ready to sell it. I really liked the Scamp, but with my 6'-4" frame, it just really wasn't big enough for me.

Good luck!

Allen

Thanks for the writeup on your install (and the necrobump). We bought a 2001 Scamp 13 yesterday and I'm scrambling find an AC solution. I just figured I would throw a new Dometic Brisk Air 2 up on the roof but after some post purchase research, I was wrong.
