This is really strange. I just looked at the usually empty rustic campground and they are also booked. Only one or two sites available.

Check back later folks to find out the rest of the story.

We camped in the primitive section that weekend (in our teardrop) last year and I seem to recall the campground to be almost full. There were several FG campers in that section as well. I’m looking forward to slightly drier weather and a second visit to Schell’s beer garden this year.

Thanks Rich,

I am sure the rustic campground in the park, down the road a couple of miles, did not fill last year. We went down there to try to take a hike. Trail was closed due to wash out. That campground was the one that really surprised me being nearly full.

If we come we will really have to think about the social distancing thing. The musicians usually are close, we will miss Luc this year.

Just looked and Herman Fest is on the 12th this year. That was fun too.

You're right, I was thinking of the non-electric sites.

By the way, the Rustic campground does not even have water available. And the rules state that they are not suppose to use the shower house in the semi-modern campground. People who camp in that campground are expected to go to the beach house to shower. If ever there was a rule to break....I was not so pleased with the park personnel I talked to.

Oh my. We need to follow this. It appears restrooms are currently not open, just vault toilets. I don’t know if the link I have is for Flandrau. It was when I copied the URL.

Talking Flandrau/New Ulm update

We are here in New Ulm this weekend. We were slated to be at Fort Ridgely state park but flooding caused damage to some sites so MN DNR moved us here.. It looks like every other site here at Flandrau is closed to camping. We are in site 42, sites adjacent to us are blocked off with picnic tables and hazard tape. Bathrooms are closed. They have porta potties set up instead.

Every other site closed

Yes I believe every other site is being left empty for social distancing. The park called today to tell us they would have to change our site. We said we'd be cancelling anyway since it looks like the border will still be closed. So they canceled and we received a full refund.

Hopefully see everyone next year.

Julie as you see we gave up our site but I don't know if anything will be available now anyway.

Herman Festival

The Herman Festival has been cancelled this year.

A while back I was checking out the German restaurants and noticed one of them only does take out on certain days.

The park called to tell us the three sites we hold are valid and will not be cancelled. I will post as soon as we find out if all three will remain occupied, or if we cancel. Someone may want our sites if we don’t.

Not sure we have ever had a Bigfoot at our gatherings. We do get Escapes, Casitas, Burros, UHauls and Scamps and SOB (some other brands)

We had fun last year at New Ulm. Pretty town.
At the Bemidji rally a couple of years ago we were there with our 25' Bigfoot and Tony and Darlene Nowak were there with their 17' Bigfoot. I know Tony and Darlene have attended other MN rallys. A year later we sold our 25' BF and the new owners attended the rally in Lanesboro, where we live, along with another couple in a 21' BF.

We showed our 25' Bigfoot to numerous couples at the Bemidji rally and Tony and Darlene were busy showing their 17'. Nowak's, and Terry and I, now own Escape fiberglass campers. I believe Nowak's own a 17B and we own a 5.0 TA. EDIT:

I grew up 35 miles from New Ulm and spent many nights at Georges Ballroom chasing girls. My parents were golf fanatics, so I also spent many days golfing at Fort Ridgely State Park, 15 miles up the river, and still love camping there. We much prefer Fort Ridgely to Flandrau, since we're hikers and bikers.

We always ride our trikes from Fort Ridgely to New Ulm to eat at Veigel's Kaiserhoff and then pedal back. The Kaiserhoff has fantastic German food with ribs to die for. For those who love to bike you may want to consider riding your bike up the valley to either the Harkin Store or Fort Ridgely. The Minnesota River Valley road is a low use, wide, tar road, with nice shoulders along with great views of the valley. The Harkin Store is closed this year, but is a great place to have a sandwich.

I just looked and the Flandrau Park is booked, but perhaps others may want to camp at Fort Ridgely State Park with us that weekend and have a mini rally. Again, it's only about 15 miles away.

Enjoy,

Perry

Many regulars not coming

I am sorry to say there are many of us not coming. We do not keep a roster of who would be there. I do know of at least 10 fiberglass units that will not attend. I am sure there are more.

Camping with your family alone is low risk. It is the gathering that is high risk. The gathering is what we all like to do.

The mothership site will be available. If anyone especially wants that site let me know. We will be cancelling it soon.

Hopefully we will be able to gather at Kathio in May.

That's too bad, but thanks for the update. I think I'll try and transfer my reservation to some place closer to home.

Let me know if anyone is not coming.
We might need 1 more site.
Fyi: They have changed the fee structure. Cancel over 4 days out you get refund less $10. 4 days and less you loose a night rent and $10.
