For those interested, I started a page of rally photos at my Website. I'll add to it as the event progresses.

My annotated picture of the group at the Green Cove Station on the Virginia Creeper Trail along with the (totally appropriate) sticker that Dave awarded me.....

How close is the Virginia Creeper Trail to the HM Park? Did you all bike the whole length?

From the park to Whitetop is just under an hour drive, to Damascus takes a bit over a half hour.
And the whole Creeper Trail is about 34 miles but the downhill ride from Whitetop down to Damascus is only half that.

But if you come back, you've gone the full 34 miles. Uphill, but it was a railroad; probably not more than a 1% grade. Or did you get picked up in Damascus?

I don't think any of our crew biked back up. They all took the shuttle.

Well, to be specific (including maps and links):
The bike ride on the trail was 17.2 miles with a total elevation drop of 1673 ft.

Sounds great. Nice to have a cafe and brewery nearby.
