Wow - sneaking up on me again this year...
If I'm reading the forum, email and text messaging right we should have 13 sites in park and 2 at Peach Beach. I'll put up a list next month.
We've been busy the past year - have a been remodeling our new house and I have a new hip.
Hopefully I can get the Escape cleaned up and find our camping gear by May .

As the newbie, is it just up to me to go to the indicated camp sites and introduce myself?

I went with spot 44 at Peach because. It's the farthest away from everything, and looks to be private and quiet. I am loud and obnoxious, but my family likes the idea of being able to get a reprieve from me.

Ah...good question...
Before we skipped last year we would have fairly large gatherings Fri & Sat evenings - sitting elbow to elbow around a fire at our site.

This year.... well, the fire will be there, but maybe the chairs won't .
Swing by site 50 when you get there and we'll figure it out together (I want to see your new 17B sometime too).

If it matters, I got lucky in the stand by line and I should be fully vaccinated by the time of the rally..

Hopefully most of us should be vaccinated by mid May.

GOLDENDALE OBSERVATORY REOPENS APRIL 24
Online registration for programming will be required

OLYMPIA – April 6, 2021 – Washington State Parks will reopen the newly renovated Goldendale Observatory State Park Heritage Site April 24, on a limited schedule.

To comply with the state’s Phase 3 order, the observatory will open at a reduced capacity. The free observatory programs will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only. Visitors must register online for the programs. The facility will not open for drop-in visitors, and staff will not offer private tours. State Parks will not be able to schedule visits outside the Saturday and Sunday program dates.

During Phase 3, visitors will not have access to evening viewing through the main telescope.Goldendale Observatory - new building - front with walkway

Afternoon programming will include the opportunity to tour the newly upgraded facility. Registered participants will be able to view the sun through the observatory’s solar telescopes.

The current observatory schedule is temporary and expected to change. To find updates and schedule changes, check the park’s web page; sign up to get email park alerts; or check Parks’ social media: Twitter (@WaStatePks) or Facebook (@WashingtonStateParks).

About Goldendale Observatory
Goldendale Observatory sits on 5 hilltop acres, 2 miles north of the town of Goldendale and about 13 miles north of the Columbia River. The observatory houses one of the world’s largest publicly accessible permanently mounted telescopes. Last year, State Parks completed work on an extensive multi-year renovation of the observatory and grounds. Work included:

Converting the old Cassegrain telescope to a Newtonian telescope by replacing the telescope’s original mirror with a new, state-of-the-art 24.5-inch mirror.
Constructing a new building with a 140-person capacity auditorium.
Creating new exhibits on astronomy and other sciences.
Adding special lighting in the interior and outdoor landscape to preserve dark-sky viewing.
Increasing parking and restroom capacity.

Question Ticks at Maryhill?

I just saw posts from a WA State camping group, people having been at Maryhill and comlaining about abundance of ticks!!! Yuk! I know nothing... is there a deterrent/remedy for them? or maybe they will be gone by the time we are there? or is someone over-dramatizing the situation? It is "Washington State Camping-Nice People Only" group. Post yesterday... ???

Ticks at Maryhill?

I don't know the situation on ticks but there are several natural and other deterrants on the market for ticks sold most places. Just check them out if you want to be prepared for them and find one that you are comfortable with. This is a common thing for backpackers and hikers.

We will be heading to Maryhill next week so will let you know if we find and over abundance of ticks.

That would be useful to know though if you use anything on your dogs already you might not see them. I normally don't use anything here but will see about getting protection for Sadie if it is a problem. (Jack, my late Pem, did have fleas when we got to WSU a day after our first rally at Maryhill though I can't be sure where he got them.)

Bobbie,
Our dog is on a monthly expensive prescription during the spring and summer months for fleas and ticks after she got a tick in her eye lid. But I agree ticks are bad for pets and people and hard to find in hair or fur.

Thanks much!

We will be in site 37. We're really looking forward to this event!

I decided to take no chances and give her a preventative for May.

Am still trying to get a Cancelled site.,,

But as always, that’s a well-liked campground, and who knows when someone may have to cancel.

If anyone has to cancel for that weekend give me a call or drop me an email;
gardencoach@live.com

Would love to buy it from you!
Thanks!
