A really really small microwave.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a very very small microwave oven. I would love to have the convenience, but, in a Scamp 13, what I have been able to find so far has seemed too big. I tried a 0.6 cu ft 18" x 12" by 10" inches, but it weighed a bit over 20 lbs and was just too big. Is there anything really small out there? Around 12 lbs maybe and significantly smaller than 18x12x10"? Thanks a lot!

There was a smaller one made years ago about the size of an icemaker. Floyd has one mounted in his S-13D. You might find one in a thrift store. I was not able to locate a new one several of years ago.

Just make sure it has enough wattage to do what you want it to do. Microwave popcorn and frozen pot pies, for example, usually require at least 900-1000W.
That could be the reason the tiny ones were discontinued.

We have a small to mid-size inexpensive unit purchased at a department store. Admittedly, we don't use it a lot but when we do, as Jon has pointed out, we are thankful that it is not painfully small. The most outstanding time that I think of using it is in the pouring rain when, instead of BBQing, the whole supper was done inside and the mic was a very useful addition to the process.

I have an 18”WX11”HX12”D in my Scamp and absolutely would not want one any smaller. One, the rotating tray just holds a paper plate. And two, I use it to store my plastic plates and silverware tray. If the MW was any smaller it would be useless for storage. And I use it a LOT more for storage than cooking.

zack sc, I had a small 700W Sharp I had bought at Kmart back in the early 1980's. It was still working well until my wife blew the door off it boiling some eggs about a year ago. The explosion literally snapped the door closing mechanism off and also blew the control panel off with it. I don't have a model number, but it was a Sharp Carousel II. I used to use it whenever we went camping in the old 1980 Jayco. I don't know if they still make them, but it is a starting point for you .... just don't let your wife boil eggs in it if you find one!
Good luck on your quest .................. Jim

What about a toaster oven instead. I recently bought the Panasonic Flash Express and it's super light, cooks stuff really fast, and is easy to bring out when needed and then put away. Doesn't do the same stuff as a microwave but is another helpful cooking appliance that's easy to take in the trailer. https://www.amazon.ca/Panasonic-NB-G.../dp/B008C9UFDI

It's tough to find something significantly smaller than 18x12x10".
The Whirlpool WMC20005 seems to have good reviews and the rounded design would let you put it into a corner. On the other hand, it's really tall.
Power: 750 watts
Dimensions: 13.75 D x 15.5 W x 14.1 H
Counter Space: 213.1 sq in
Capacity: 0.5 cu ft
Pasta not included.

Thanks Civilguy. I would like to try that one. Very difficult to find it at the appropriate price. ($170). Home Depot doesn't sell or ship it to my area... Also, but the way, it is really heavy; maybe that is the nature of a microwave generator??

About 5 years, or more, ago, Walmart had some cheap 700W microwaves. They were $40 CDN each. I bought two thinking they would not last. My mother in law broke the glass plate in the one we were using, but I never had any other reason to use the second microwave. My wife has a friend that was redoing her kitchen and gave my wife her, "old" over the stove, 1200W, vent/microwave. So this year we donated the second 700W microwave to a needy family at Christmas. I still have the one we used for testing inverters.

Microwave
Here is what me and my wife did to ours. We replaced the cabinet with a microwave, fridge and place for coffee maker. Make sure to add a vent so they can get rid of the excess heat. I put it on the side with a 12v fan to suck out the extra heat.

I picked up a 700W microwave locally (there are several on Amazon also) and have been very happy with it. The size is smaller than what you have I just needed to make certain the door latched firmly when closed as the one put in originally didn't latch well and tended to fly open when traveling. I am able to do popcorn in it.

When we ordered our 1999 Scamp 13' Deluxe, we purchased a GE 'Mike the Anywhere' Microwave like this (120V version)
https://www.110220volts.com/je324gfa.html
and the Scamp factory in MN built it into the upper part of our closet. It fit and worked perfectly for the 16 years we owned the trailer.
Another possibility (if you can find one) is a Sharp Half Pint

Happy cooking!
